I was roundly rejected by some flunky assistant at a publishing house because she did not like the way I portrayed a mixed-race character in my novel. She refused to say what she disliked. She just sent me a bunch of links to articles (I never read) that I guess were supposed to teach me how to write more sensitively. Gah! I was writing for a living before Ms. Snooty was a gleam in her momma's eye. We have gone way overboard and that is a tragedy. There are a few words we do need to avoid because of their historical meaning. In such cases, context is king. Words are always used in a context that explains what we mean by the words we choose. But discerning for meaning is impossible online. I am NOT a chabot!
I think the appropriate response to that person in this scenario would be to say, "well, I do not like the way you are portraying a human character in actual physical existence." : )
Your bio sounds interesting; you just gained a new follower so there's that anyway. If I saw Ms. Snooty in person I'd give her a huge boo and hiss!! What is the name of your novel, I'd like to check it out.
My high fantasy series is called Stoneslayer. I'm delighted you are interested. Book One Fallout is on sale at online bookstores as an ebook or a paperback. Book Two Fallout debuts Aug. 5. Ms. Snooty isn't worth the effort of your huge boo and hiss. Save those for the villains in my series. Plenty of 'em.
I just read the synopsis of Book One "Scandal" on Amazon - sounds like a real potboiler, and you got lots of 5 star reviews! Can't wait to read it, supposed to arrive in 2 days. Thank you for letting me know about this - I love to read especially good fiction.
Hope you enjoy it. Yes, I meant to write Scandal as the title of Book One. I am trying to finish Book Eight and there may well be 24 books in the completed series (four generations of women x six books for each woman). So no doubt I will get titles mixed up many times.
A chatbot is a tech persona on the other end of those online real-time exchanges that many companies use instead of allowing their customers to speak to real live people. I have never gotten anything helpful from a chatbot. Utterly useless, in my experience.
Oh, CHATbot! I do know what that is. (My brother is one...) (You can hit the "three-schpots" icon on the upper right to edit your posts.) What I didn't want to be was a sha-boh! And I still don't.

LOL and here I was thinking Amazon was the one that made the mistake! I DO understand, I'm 70 y.o. and memory is not what it used to be!
I WANT A T-SHIRT TOO: "I'M NOT A CHABOT!!!" (What's a chabot?)
