This is one of the most retarded things the left has come up with. Illogical on all fronts. Where and to whom do I send the trophy?

🌱Nard🙏's avatar

I was going to say, “This is so dumb.” You said it better.

Occam's avatar

I know this seems like idiocy, but I'm actually IN FAVOR of reparations. My only condition would be that this money is taken from budgets for waging foreign wars and funding (ahem) other countries.

The benefits:

1. If they get paid, they'll have to stop talking about it

2. The money will be spent posthaste by the recipients, so it'd be an economic stimulus and the stock market will go up

3. A lot of grifters will be out of business

4. We will have clearly paid any debts to descendants of slavery

That's a win, baby!

The Great Santini's avatar

I have a better idea. Since the Democrat Party was 100% behind slavery, rebellion and Jim Crow, take all the money from the Democrat Party, every Democrat politician and every Democrat front group, George Soros, Reid Hoffman and that Code Pink and Neville Singham guy to pay the reparations. Tax the bejesus out of them. Double the income tax. Tax all the campaign contributions. No borrowing, no taxpayer money — only them.

Kitt Lo's avatar

I love this idea!!

TriciaandHerDog's avatar

And no more fainting couch theatrics over the word “nigger.”

kittynana's avatar

@Occam- that, oddly, makes sense.

Justin's avatar

I'm thinking that each of their children are gonna hate on their parents for taking all the money. Oh, are they entitled too? How long before they are targeted for extinction for the massive drain on all of us?

Michael Wachocki's avatar

Let us not forget the african chiefs/kings who captured and sold their black brethren into that slavery.

Steven Bradford's avatar

This constant money grubbing by today’s aggrieved democrat party patsy is just so tedious. Make it stop.

Bgagnon's avatar

Best reply!!!!

The Great Santini's avatar

From 1965 to the present day, 60+ years, we’ve had racial preferences for those of the same skin color as the enslaved persons. Reparations have already been paid, in fact overpaid.

This is just a grift. It has always been a grift. The existence of committees to discuss this is also a grift.

Occam's avatar

Absolutely.

The people advocating for reparations are the same grifters that stole money and benefited from BLM, opened the borders and let massive entitlement fraud happen.

Corn Pop's avatar

Overpaid to an incalculable amount. How do you put a price on societal decay.

Dena's avatar

It may end when it doesn’t pay to pretend you’re a victim because of your skin color.

In this debate no one ever mentions the fact that, post Civil War and prior to the civil rights movement of the sixties, the black community had built businesses, hospitals, schools, colleges, churches and entertainment venues that combined to create thriving communities. The marriage rate for black Americans in the 1950s were higher than for whites. Then came the civil rights movement and the "war on poverty" and marriage rates plunged, illegitimate births sky-rocketed, and those thriving black communities perished. I'm not defending Jim Crow or the fact that black citizens were denied the right to vote, or to shop or patronized restaurants, hotels, or other businesses of their choosing, or that fact that they were forced to sit in the back of the bus, and that their schools were underfunded compared to white schools. I'm just wondering which was worse: what happened post-slavery, or what happened post- war on poverty. Oh, and if you don't believe me that such thriving communities existed, I invite you to visit the Negro Baseball museum in Kansas City, and watch the film of black Kansas City residents describing their communities in the 1940s and '50s. It's eye-opening.

Doug's avatar

Your comment also made me think about all the race riots that have burned down black-owned businesses and left those same neighborhoods blighted and in very much worse shape than pre-riot. And then I think of BLM raking in all those donations by mostly-white liberals, and that money being spent on things OTHER THAN rebuilding black communities.

What a cruel joke.

CStone's avatar

And your comment put me in mind if all the cities blighted by black mayors and city councilmen who have turned their black communities into ghettos and ‘killing fields’, claiming to need more money and then putting the money into their own pockets.

And They have re-enslaved their own people because of their own greed. Which is why the black people were sold by their own black people in Africa.

GREED.

And those demanding reparations are as GREEDY as those leaders, they are a slave to their love of money and their LOVE of money is the root of ALL evil.

Skeptical Actuary's avatar

The majority of the "wealth gap" between black and white families is due to difference in illegitimacy rates. Families with only one parent present are generally going to be poor.

And in the black community, a lot of the boys from those families learn very bad social skills from street gangs.

Don't be afraid to say "It's the illegitimacy rates!"

Can you imagine what would happen if every black family was given $800,000? A lot of people would be trying to buy houses in that price range, driving massive house inflation. A lot of the money would be frittered on stuff that ranged from useless to destructive. Yes, some people would use the money to go to college. In this day and age, I'd have to call that "useless".

SenecaKnows97's avatar

You mean left to their own devices blacks will build wakanda? If that is true, please explain haiti, liberia, rhodesia/Zimbabwe, the rest of subsaharan africa?

Deo Gratias's avatar

Wakanda is fiction, and Africa is not America. What black Americans did was build a parallel society in the decades when they were excluded from the "white" world except as servants and entertainers. They operated under the same economic rules, the same democratic institutions, and were strongly supported by the black Christian churches which encouraged marriage, family life and education to the extent they were able to obtain it. They weren't perfect (what community is?), and were mostly poor, but they were functioning communities. The rules for welfare during the "war on poverty" drove men from the homes, as aid was given only to households with no male wage earner. It destroyed marriage, and encouraged out of wedlock births by paying more per child. (One wonders if LBJ, who was by many accounts a racist, planned it to do exactly that.) Once the family was undermined the communities followed. The real problem for black communities today is fatherlessness, but nobody wants to admit it.

I want some reparations from the Democrats while I’m still alive. For a broken family, a grandchild groomed into trans and supporting and facilitating drugs and mutilation, for being exposed to mentally ill people 24/7, emotional turmoil, mental despair, loss of freedom, theft of money, being threatened by refusing a needle stuck into my body. I can add more. Or they can just all go to hell if correctly adjudicated by a Higher Power.

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

INDEED. So sorry for all of this, Janet. Truly.

Thanks, Jenna. I was an active Democrat. Seems you have to get out of it before many will look back in and see the rot. 🐸 💦 🥶🥵

Opening old wounds and stirring resentments is divide and conquer 101. It's such a transparent betrayal of every shred of decency that anyone engaging in it will surely find their sorry, backstabbing souls in a chapter in Paradise Lost 2.0.

Meddling Kid's avatar

Of course we all know that anything beyond compensating the ACTUAL enslaved back in the 1860s-1870s range is pointless, but what about…

The Irish slaves?

The African tribes that CONQUERED the blacks and sold them into slavery?

The Muslim traders who bought them and sold them to European and Colonial slave traders?

Where is everyone ELSE’s responsibility in this equation, not just the current deep-pocket money-printers in the US government? (Who then pass that debt onto our grandchildren.)

Yes, the US government protected slavery for a while, but then it also abolished it under Republicans and elected its first black congressman by republicans, so shouldn’t all republicans also be excluded from this equation?

How about we just trace all of the lineage of KKK members and see who is still (Graham Platner) practicing racism or still (Graham Platner) wearing Nazi tattoos and just make THEM pay reparations, so that the few who can prove their slave ancestry can get their duly-owed 73¢ and we can put this argument to bed once and for all.

SadieJay's avatar

You are so right. The stealing of black people began in AFRICA, tribe against tribe, chief against chief. They were bought, sold and traded among themselves long before the whites or arabs ever showed their faces from trade ships. But, who reads or remembers ancient history? This is what happens when it is erased.

Kay's avatar

And not only that. We behave as though slavery as practiced in America were uniquely evil, although slavery was ubiquitous for thousands of years. It had nothing to do with the color of one’s skin. England was the first country to abolish slavery, and we were the second. Furthermore, black people owned slaves, right here in America. Will the descendants of black slave owners be eligible for reparations as well?

Justin's avatar

I'm reminded of one woman whose primary identifier was not he or she. No, it was DOS (descendant of slaves). She was insufferable to be around.

The Globalists’ agenda is Managed Decline, so when society hits rock bottom, they can Build Back Better. Reparations at this scale is Accelerated Decline. The Globalists are running out of time.

joe jacovino's avatar

love it ! managed and accelerated decline , boy oh boy howdy

joe jacovino's avatar

all semantics , went from slaves to wage slaves , for the most part

Tom Wiedemeier's avatar

Jpeach, agreed. They are running out of ideas as well. So much so that BS like this is all they’ve got? The black community that have had their eyes opened aren’t coming back, and they’re still leaving exponentially. And Hispanics. At this point if the left completely lose their grip on stolen elections, and it looks like they will in all but solid blue states, I would say the globalists are managing their OWN decline. If good people vote in November, it will be one more death nail.

Justin's avatar

We should hit them for the total cost of reparations. As a matter of fact, I'm feeling like they're trying to enslave me too. Should I get my pound of flesh as well?

Marlene Swann's avatar

This is just a mid-terms concocted strategy so the dems get their base back. Sad but true. And sadder still, it might just work. Greed trumps everything to these losers.

Lisa's avatar

Not a single member of my family was anywhere near this country during slavery. Curious to me that none of the people proposing this seem to have any issue with current substandard schools that cheat minorities and poor students out of a decent education. Nor did they protest closing public schools during Covid while allowing private schools to be open, widening the education gap and future economic opportunities for less privileged kids. Gotta get that Teachers Union vote.

🌱Nard🙏's avatar

1/4 of my family WAS here. Fought in the revolutionary war and every war that followed. Never owned a single slave. Poor farmers who worked hard and made their way. And yet…I have to pay? So. Dumb.

But have you have you heard about the wealth tax that’s being tossed around? The asset tax? That’s the one that’ll get you. That will get me. That will get all of us. It makes reparations look like small potatoes. And we’ll all be broke.

John Wright's avatar

Wealth tax... sure... let's tax money that isn't even money! Just imaginary numbers in computers. 🤦‍♂️

John Wright's avatar

I'm okay with them taxing it (imaginary profits), as long as the taxes are imaginary too and given back if the profits never materialize.

Boris A. Doyle's avatar

If we're going down this route, then we should start at the beginning.

Black people whose family owned slaves should be denied money.

Muslims should be denied money, but charged double taxation for their role in Slavery.

Anyone whose famiky fought in the Civil War should not have to pay.

Anyone whose family had Democrat connections during slavery should pay.

Laura Cornwell's avatar

The easy answer and probably most accurate is that in any government program more than half the money goes off the top in grift to the government officials and workers. What better way to line his pockets, than have Moamdamni pretend to collect money for “poor Black peoples” then skim it for his $50M grocery store and a few more designer suits and tooth whitening sessions?

St. Alia the Knife's avatar

A 50% operating cost would actually be efficient by government standards. 85% is more typical. See Social Security or Medicare.
