I’ve been encouraged lately that my 23 yo daughter (who is definitely a product of her generation) has been on this rabid kick to preserve physical media. She buys books and CD’s and DVD’s. In her car, she listens to an album as it was meant to be listened to. She and her sisters read whole books OUT LOUD to each other. I may have screwed up as a mom 1000 ways, but this makes me very proud.

My 27 year old hates social media, only has a FB account for family connections (never actually posts anything), and still does game nights with her friends. My 16 year old son? Not so much... (though he has zero social media accounts because we wont allow it).

My girls all still have and use social media, but I’m encouraged by their distaste for “sticky iPad kids”—very small children who are given an iPad to keep them quiet in public. I hope that feeds a general distaste for social media going forward.

I can barely get through this insanity.

Saying that tech is cleaner for the planet than cardboard and paper (both of which come from *trees* and return to *dirt*) is as dumb as claiming that electric-powered cars in the Midwest (where the electricity comes from... coal) are better for the environment than gas cars. What about the environmental costs of harvesting all those rare earth metals for the processors in the VR? Not to mention the human costs, a la Ukraine and places like it.

Besides, virtual dumbbells are not going to shape our biceps. Virtual tree climbing is not going to build the neural networks necessary for balance and strength and assessing risk. A virtual dog or spouse is not going to elicit the same tactile-snuggle-beside-me sensations and hormonal responses that a real, live, warm one will.

Garbage. All of it.

Reminds me of the gizmo Jeff Childers described recently ... a pocket-sized thingy that will purport to know us better than we know ourselves as it continuously assesses our every action and word.

We must walk wisely, not as fools.

Ah, but they don't want us to be physically fit and thinking clearly. Far better to give us drugs and computer games:

And they certainly DO want us to hook up with a "virtual" (non-human) partner:

As for the gizmo Childers described, sounds like an invention YNH would have endorsed since he honestly believes AI can know us better than we know ourselves:

All reality is suspended when one thinks one is a god....it may not be hubris or even manipulation but straight-up self-deception. Tucker was a genius in revealing this during his interview with Cruz, Tucker regularly said "I believe you believe that...." It's a level of altered reality that we simply do not understand. Unless, we are the crazies. :)

Yes, notice how all the "plans" lead to WEAKENING and DEATH of masses of populations. Wolves in Sheep's clothing! All these false fronts about how it's all to "help" the earth. Massive deception - and these "select" humans keep rolling along with their plans. MONEY is what enables them - by paying off many people to enact whatever is needed for their plans. Stop the money sources - stop these insane acts of destruction.

Mao did the same, killing millions. Part of it was having the different groups be pitted against one another, publicly ostracizing groups - making them the enemy to others, and giving "rewards" for success of one group over another.

There needs to be unity, despite the efforts to divide.

thanks, Jenna. Here's to being relational with other people in person--listening to them, talking with them, and inspiring them. I'm old and who knows how much time I have left, but I want to be relational with people when I go out - even if it's a couple of minutes at the grocery check out or passing someone on the natural trail near my home. I want to listen to and support the younger people as they talk about their hopes and dreams - maybe it's the hair stylist who cut my hair or the young doctor who's just beginning their career. It's their future not mine. I just watched the movie version of the musical Hair (1979) again yesterday. I saw it as a live performance when it first was produced. I was 16. I loved the music and the excitement of it as a teen/young adult but I didn't really understand the context in which I was living the things that inspired that musical. Watching the movie yesterday, I saw the foundations of what we're living today with government control. My wish is for the kids today to find their own rhythm, passion, and ideals. Perhaps the job of the older generation is to think about what legacy we want to leave. I am a voluntary storyteller to grade school kids (not reading books but standing there telling the story and acting out the characters). They love it! I don't know how a virtual experience of that would compare with the joy and kindness that comes with in-person storytelling - and the stories are full of wonderful lessons for them to think about and decide how they want to be. And I get joy by being with the kids in such a special way. "One small step for mankind" I guess. In truth, it's a spiritual matter for me.

Aaaaand that's why we are going to live with the Amish! Who's with me?!

Unfortunately, augmented reality is going to provide an escape for the vast majority of people who just want to hit the pause button from running the rat race all day, all week, for months, weeks, years, and decades on end. It's easier, it feels more real, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home, car, parent's basement, neighbor's couch, etc.

Ugh, I'm going outside for a walk to smell the real grass and roses. Screw Zuckerborg and the rest of the technocrats that want to control and monitor every minute of our lives!

Other: delusional. But what else can you expect from someone so stupid rich that he hasn't done anything practical for himself in years. Humans create art and handicrafts; grow flowers and veggies in the sun and soil; feel sand beneath our feet, hot showers on aching muscles, and hugs; taste pickles and fruit, savor steaks and crunch nuts; master instruments and sing together; read books and write poems with pen and ink on paper ~ These things bring joy. How sad that he can't see that. And we must fight the stealing of our joy.

Even if they wanted to, up to 70% of people cannot use VR:

"A significant portion of virtual reality (VR) users experience some form of discomfort, often referred to as cybersickness, which is similar to motion sickness. Studies suggest that between 40% and 70% of users may experience these symptoms within the first 15 minutes of using a VR headset, according to a report by Strivr and PC Gamer. This can range from mild symptoms like nausea, disorientation, and eye strain to more severe cases of vertigo and headaches."
