Thanks for the laughs, Jenna. The moment I figured out they were rigging the algoithms, which was years ago, I quit FB. More often than not these days I call it FascistBook. I don't have anything to say about FB except, good riddance.

Thanks, Laura. It's been 4 years now, covering 2021-2023. I'm wrapping it up this year, then plan to work more on the index and post infrequent updates in 2025. I will leave the transcripts online as long as that may be possible. The paper archive will be donated to more than one institutional archive in 2 different countries, so it will be available to future historians.

"FascistBook" is an accurate term, in my opinion, but I didn't come up with it. I can't recall now where I first saw it. At the time I left FB (pre-covid times) I might have called it Look-at-my-FoodBook because for some reason a lot of my FB "friends" liked to post pix of their food.

Expand full comment

I love "FascistBook"! I've called it BlueEff for a while now. Here's a excerpt from a piece on I wrote on it, trying to wrap my arms around all of the different emotions and responses it has engendered in me...

"Enjoy my attempt (verbatim!) to fix my stolen account:

Me, in an email: Here is a picture of my driver’s license to verify my identity.

Facebook’s response: Hi, Thanks for submitting your ID. However, we can't confirm your identity until you provide an ID."

Thanks for the link to your most excellent essay-- I left it a heart when I first read it back when it was posted, and I didn't comment beyond that-- but I'll say this now, for me the problem with FB is the algorithms, the way they intermediate and shape relationships between / among people. To me there is something profoundly perverse about that.

Expand full comment

Oh, thanks TB! I didn't realize you had already read it. 🤦‍♀️ But yes -- that's highly disturbing, as is the idea that we've just gone along with it. "Oh, that's just the algorithm," ho hum, like it's so NORMAL to have non-human interference as a constant in our lives.

Expand full comment

Well the thing is, algorithms as they are used by social media are quite outside previous human experience. They emerged in a society entirely unprepared for their powers and their dangers. Of course human society has always had censorship, propaganda, rumor, and other informational manipulation, but algorithms in electronic communication are another level. It seems to me that once a person realizes what algorithms really are and what they can (and often) do, it's a wake up moment. At least it was for me.

I saw a meme on I think Pinterest about people walking down the street and meeting other people and sharing pictures of their dogs and their grandchildren and their food and telling them how much exercise they done and how much weight they'd lost and all kinds of stuff like they did on facebook which made you understand really how ridiculous it is. Though it seems some people just eat that stuff up. Really sad.

I seem to have a high tolerance for Facebook, but my strategy was to have only about 30 "friends" so maybe that is why. And I have very few friends, period. I feel that Facebook is more simple & kind of more stupid and therefore does not do me that much harm. So, I go on Facebook briefly to post one or two things that nobody reads, or to check "Marketplace" to find something not to buy.

I quit Facebook 17 years ago when I realized that Zuckerberg owned all of the baby photos I was uploading.

Also, the HS people you didn’t like is so true. They were still annoying 15 years later.

Sara, I propose a crusade.

Would it be possible for us to create new FB accounts and begin posting EVERYTHING, with one requirement: it has to be FAKE. The more outrageous the better. Meanwhile "the Algorithm" is lapping it all up and we are friending each other to fill the databases with inanity and make them buy more servers--and burn up more electricity.

For example, "Here's me in junior high." (pic of a horny toad; actually not far off)

I have often searched stuff in google and watched stuff on youtube just to "get a reputation" for things like buying a yacht (hahahahaha) or a private island (HAHAHAHAHA).

Sure enough yachts and islands showed up in my feed.

I look at it as "getting the technology to FAWN over ME, as opposed to v.v."

*Of course, there is that FBI thing where they're sifting through my posts and will soon be on my doorstep to ask about why I'm so interested in yachts and islands since my dossier indicates that up until recently I've been a schlamazel.

Expand full comment

Interesting idea. I would have to think long and hard about what to seed the interwebs with, however.

If they decide to take out the capitalists, I probably wouldn’t want to be known as a giant yacht enthusiast. On the other hand, if they finish the job on the deplorables, then I probably would need to avoid Babylon Bee and sweet tea.

What to do…what to do…

The fact is Facebook and every other 'free' social media makes money off your use. They also report you to DHS and etc. My Dr's office told me they reported me to DHS when I said I would not get the COVID vaccine. (but this is off topic). Everyone on Facebook is a content creator and should be paid for their content that Facebook uses to be profitable by selling to advertisers, government agencies, political parties and etc seeking to influence society. Demand to be compensated for your content, even if banned, because they are making profit from selling your information to others or don't post on these sites.

Expand full comment

Your doctor's office TOLD YOU THAT? What happened to HIPAA???

Expand full comment

They were pretty bold in telling me. My Dr was part of St Peter's Healthcare in Albany, NY and they ran under the same mentality that fired NYC police and firefighters. I worked for a NYC based firm that demanded vaccination even though I was remote or face consequences. I contacted employment rights lawyers and no one wanted to touch this. Eventually forced to comply by my employer. HIPPA continues to be a non-issue for employers in NY in my opinion, though I am not a legal expert. I had been 25+yrs with my company. Fortunately, I have had no side effects of that I am aware. This was my wakeup call.

UGHHHH THIS MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. I hope you fired that doctor and I'm so glad you have had no side effects.

I did. I also moved to a rural location. I knew I found the right Dr when after speaking about my own experience, he expressed strong anger at being forced to take the vaccination to keep his practice. I was lucky. Expressing your views on COVID vaccines identifies who is who very quickly. I have had family members call me racist and every other word on Hillary's list because of my view of COVID. Life turned very real after 2020.

I’ve often wondered why a doctor who was against this shot could not FAKE getting the shot,in some way….and, why there wasn’t a underground movement to provide fake shots/ documentation to the people they serve…I understand the risks were great, and, everything is more clear in hindsight, but,I was certainly trying to figure out how to lie to protect myself, and family, and, not be sent to a “camp”!... Like I did when we could bring little paper vaccine books your doctor would sign (not difficult to forge little doctor squiggly signatures),to prove to schools your kid was “ up to date “… back then,it was “only “ something like 10 shots. Now,in California,it’s 72!!! And,no way around it,unless a doctor is willing to lie…I believe even the Waldorf schools must comply…

There were underground movements. A doctor in the western US (I think) gave saline covid jabs to kids, was found out, and is now being prosecuted for defrauding the government.

… well, at least that it woke you up was one benefit of that sick shot !!! Glad you’re okay heard that some were changed to saline - and some were “dirty” …

Expand full comment

Unfortunately anyone who takes time to read a current HIPAA document can easily see that HIPAA is in no way about protecting your information from disclosure but about protecting the provider from prosecution for disclosure. The list of alllll the excuses under which they may disclose your information is enormous and includes public health and threats to national security and the president.

So OF COURSE they can tell your employer your jab status because public health. So.

I’m sad you think that voting for Trump is the lesser of two evils! Just because he can be hyperbolic and/or brash doesn’t mean he isn’t a good person. He’s 50 million times a better person than any democrat I’ve ever met. Generous, kind, smart, funny and a huge patriot. I wish people could see what has been obvious to me since he first ran for office instead of equivocating!

Expand full comment

Exactly what I came here to say. Jenna, you’re falling into the same rut so many others always do: believing that “yeah Trump is a liar and has committed fraud, but that doesn’t matter compared to Harris,” and then think “but RFKJr is who I am following.”

I was following RFKJr for quite a while and began to waffle when I noticed there was an outside chance he would represent the CURRENT Democratic Party if they asked him to or let him. Trump NEVER would have entertained that thought. So it gave me pause because RFKJr had fantastic reasons to leave that party and those reasons did NOT miraculously disappear over night. I know he just wanted in any way he could get in, I get it, but upon further analysis what he actually chose to do in the end could easily have been done several months earlier, and should have. But he too fell into that same “rut” about Donald Trump. It took being a target of false narratives himself to finally wake up.

When trying to figure out what to do I had to question everything I ever thought I knew about Trump and look more closely at the source of my feelings and beliefs about him.

That FB poster said “decades of fraud” and “exhaustively documented lying.” Well, really? Actually, the ONLY place it is documented exhaustively is in the very media we ALL know have been lying to us for over 8-10 years now. How is this credible documentation? How can we see that but not go one step further and realize we were ALSO conditioned to see Trump in a very specific way?? And the same for the decades of fraud. When you look at each and every claim of lying or fraud, you eventually see how corrupt the reporting was because one by one you find he was never lying but telling the truth. And his “fraud” were things every business does that are never charged for it because it’s not really that big of a deal - unless Trump does it. After about 6-7 of those discoveries I began to realize I had been groomed and conditioned to see Trump only one way. My own deep dive into getting ANY other source or side of the story about Trump revealed he’s a rather nice and decent man, certainly no worse than RFKJr himself. RFKJr just didn’t have the wicked campaigning against him as long as Trump has. And BOTH of them had indiscretions and poor choices when in their youth. Again, I’d argue RFKJrs was much worse. At least Trump had the wherewithal to avoid the drugs and alcohol trap that 99.9999% of all politicians and rich families fall into. That says something about Trump. He’s not led by the masses but by a different moral compass. One I hope RFK now is. I switched to Trump before RFKJr did, and I pleaded with him to do the same every day after.

I’m happy RFKJr joined Trump. Separate they each have important things our nation needs. Together they have everything we need. Both are good men, evolving and growing, giving hope. Can either let us down? Yes. BOTH could. That’s true of anyone. But there is hope in their words and vision. There is none in the other side.

It is not the lesser of two evils at all and I wish our side would quit arguing it that way and do their own investigation into who he really is.

I agree with you all the way! I only knew Trump from the tabloids and you're fired slogan. I thought he was a pompous arrogant New Yorker and he is. He is not the smoothest Talking Dude in the room but he's one of the smartest and he gets it done and he keeps his word to the best of his ability. He is a true patriot and he wants what's best for America and Americans. Our country was so much better off when he was in office. And other countries had a whole lot more respect for us because they knew that he was not going to take any crap from them. And I love that. I have seen him speak in person several times and he's very inspiring. You can feel the sincerity. I have worked the election polls for him and will do so again. I consider it an honor.

Most importantly, Trump has a sense of humor. His comic timing is as good as any working stand-up comedian. When was the last time you saw Harris or Walz exhibit any sign of having a sense of humor? (Hint: cackling doesn't count.) Life is too short not to have a belly laugh from time to time.

Yes but he is also Donald " the vaccine's saved millions of lives" Trump. Sadly, they both play for the same team (the occultocracy as Hrve calls it) but if I was in the US I would vote Trump because he's way brighter, more articulate & a helluva lot funnier than Harris. He is also unapologetically himself (although I would still keep one eye on central casting) and his rare truthbombs offer the odd reprieve in this clownworld. I would vote for him because if I didn't the US might be stuck with her lying, phoney, BSing arse. She has zero original thoughts ( I've seen no evidence that she's even capable of thinking). She's 100% owned in a way that is scary & is too pathological to even be ashamed of her vacuous pimping for the occultocracy.

I'm sad that you don't think that voting for Trump is the lesser of two evils. You talk about Trump as if you personally know him. As if you have sat down for a meal and have had an actual conversation with the man. Everything you know about Trump is through some type of media that is curated to specifically make you think and feel the way you do. Wake up! These people are not out friends. There is a vast ocean of difference between normal people and the political parasites in power.

If he is everything you say he is and more, then he would be VERY VOCAL about stopping the death jabs that he authorized and pushed on Americans. He hasn't and he won't because he's the opposite of what you think he is.

Expand full comment

Vee, I’m sorry but YOU don’t know him personally and you haven’t sat down to have a meal with him either, yet you are just as certain of your views about him as those of us that like him. You have always based it on only one thing: Covid. A person is more than one thing, thank God or I’d be thrown to the dogs.

And you’re right, everything people know about him who hate him has been curated to make them think a specific way. And that’s true for you too. Unless you’re going to share how many times you have sat down with him yourself and talked about Covid with him, your opinions come from what the media “let you” see. Precisely how they wanted you to see it.

I don't have to know him personally to know that he's part of the political parasite class. Look at what he has done versus what he has said he will do. He's your typical politician. Actions speak louder than words and his actions are crystal clear. Fill the swamp, kill Americans with the death jab, and continue lying to people like all politicians do. He has had over four years to redeem himself by calling a stop to the shots. There is no excuse. Absolutely zero.

More importantly, in a previous exchange with you, you confirmed that there is nothing that Trump could do that you would consider evil. That's quite the pedestal that you put him on. There isn't anyone in this world that I could say that about. Not even my wife.

I saw an amazing meme that sums up the perspective of both Trump supporters and Kamala supporters, but it really applies to any politician that people root on like any other sportsball superstar.

HE DIDN'T SAY THAT.

AND IF HE DID, HE DIDN'T MEAN THAT.

AND IF HE DID, YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT.

AND IF YOU DID, IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL.

AND IF IT IS, OTHERS HAVE SAID WORSE.

I’m sorry but you have me confused with another Substacker. I never would say “that there is nothing that Trump could do that I would consider evil”. That’s not the kind of comment I am known to make.

Vee, my “No Vee I don’t” was in reply to your FIRST question “So you don't think approving, bragging, and pushing a shot that has killed more Americans than the Vietnam War is evil?” And I proceeded to explain WHY I didn’t consider his personal actions with Covid “evil” in the same sense that is WAS evil in the hands of Fauci and the Biden admin, and even all those that came before Trump plotting this evil for decades.

I wasn’t responding to your last question in your post at all. I was focused on why I think it’s unfair of you to paint Trump with the same brush as the others and why I disagree with your very, harsh criticisms.

I also never saw your reply to my post so did not know you took me out of context and confused which question I was answering.

And many of us don’t need to know him personally to disagree with you yet you were snarky with Patti’s personal views about Trump, discrediting her simply because she didn’t know him personally or have dinner with him. Then you proceed to announce your own beliefs saying you don’t have to know him personally to be right about him. Well neither does she. It’s the hypocrisy I point out. I look at the things he has done but I look at more than the surface and I look at the intent of what he was trying to do and who else was involved that had the power to sabotage him. I’ve seen all your arguments against him and I simply disagree with your conclusions.

I never said that one needs to know someone personally to disagree with me. You are misconstruing my words and misrepresenting my position. My comment was not meant to be snarky either. It was an observation and very matter of fact.

Let's be clear. Everything that I "believe" about Trump is based in facts, not feelings. Everything "good" that was done during Trump's term is attributed directly to Trump being a good politician. Everything "bad" that was done under Trump's term is attributed to everything else but Trump. How convenient.

He approved, bragged about, and pushed the deadliest vaccine in the world, killing and destroying hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of American lives and people still make excuses for him. You want me and others to change our minds? Then let's see this "good" man call a stop to the shots so people don't continue to needlessly suffer or die.

"President Trump scammed American workers. He promised to bring back manufacturing, raise wages, fix trade deals, close the carried interest loophole, and help small farmers. But everything President Trump achieved were things the Republican machine wanted. We got a tax cut for Jeff Bezos, deregulation for special interests, and giveaways to agriculture conglomerates." -RFK (Source: https://x.com/RobertKennedyJr/status/1794913465594962285)

NOT. ONE. REGRET. I truly believe it is “happiness suicide” and “the killer of all joy”.

I ask myself though, why I continue to torture myself when I start reading stack comments that just make me want to scream. 🙀 I guess I must admit that Substack comments are just another form of social media. 😔

Re Substack comments. I'd say they are different than FB because, at least as far as has been my own experience to date, there isn't an algorithm determining what I see and don't see. If I subscribe, I see it. (I am aware that some writers suspect this is not the case, I am speaking of my personal experience here.)

Good points TB.

I have found some shenanigans going on with Substack. I no longer receive email notifications of replies to my comments - I only receive “like@ email notifications. I must to go to “activity” to see them (hence my delayed reply to your comment here). I have found pure gold in replies so it’s vital I’m aware of them.

Also, Tom Haviland was recently blocked from liking and commenting on Substack. He and another stack author had to contact Substack to lift his ban.

Per this other stack author, Substack is either compromised or hacked. Likely both. 😡😡😡

I've been blocked several times from liking and commenting but it appears to me that, at least in my case, this is merely a software glitch, because I find the problem crops up whenever I change my VPN location. I just log out, clear my browser history, restart my laptop, and no problem, good as new. I don't know what the circumstance might be for other people, but I conclude that for me it's just a software glitch.

In general I find the Substack software a little bit glitchy (I've had my scheduled posts folder scrambled a couple of times, to give another example) so I'm not ready to conclude that, for certain, there's some intention to censor or suppress behind these problems. I've been posting almost every day since late 2022 and never had an issue wth being able to do so. I don't manage comments on my Substack, but plenty of people send me email replies, which tells me they're receiving the posts.

In general, my experience to date with Substack has been very good. I'm optimistic that it will remain so, but of course, I don't know what time will bring. Just speaking for my own experience here.

Facebook is the epitome of a deep state asset and operation. They were funded by the CIA's venture capitalist fund, so they are intimately tied to DARPA and all the other lovely alphabet agencies that are spying on all of us.

I quit Facebook two weeks after joining it and this was back in the days when only college students could use it. (Do people even remember that time?) My decision to do so was reinforced when my college buddy revealed how Facebook was started and funded.

Down with Facebook and all these other "social media" giants that are spying and influencing us! Get off all of them and decentralize!

lol! You can't have a party without crazy Uncle Vee reminding everyone to stop drinking the mainstream Kool-Aid!

NextDoor was my Facebook substitute years ago when I thought I could make a difference locally with my neighbors online, but I had to quit that too when they started censoring my posts that contained "misinformation" about the death jabs and the scamdemic. I had some contentious conversations with neighbors I was hoping to some day meet, but I had to quit. What a shame.

Damn day job... one day I'll make it out of the rat race. I'm just thankful that I can still make a good living for my family with all the craziness going on these days. Extra grateful that my job allows me to be peruse and comment on substack!

FB is a vacuous arena of nothingness. I've been done with it for quite a while.

I'm still on bragbook but most of my feed are "sponsored" pages of shit I don't need nor want nor have ever expressed interest. I zap those that promote celebrities or other stupidness. I've "snoozed" a few friends but they seem to be back with their propaganda memes (like the one where the words KAMALA are a giant tidal wave about to crash over Trump's bobbing head) but I let (at least most) of them go without commenting because there's no changing their mind. Starting to see a few HARRIS/WALZ signs around town (I'm in blue MA so that's a given)

Early in COVID, I discovered something that enabled me to thwart Facebook's censorship on COVID and spikevax topics -- which was great, because I joined Facebook in 2015 primarily to become an anti-vax educator and activist.

What I discovered was that in California, a public agency's Facebook page is considered "public record" -- and that means the agency can't block members of the public from commenting, or delete their comments. So on the public health department page for my county (Mendocino), I posted well-written educational comments on every major COVID issue that came up -- such as the misuse of PCR testing; the destructive effects of lockdowns in the U.S. and around the world; effective early treatment with hydroxychloroquine+zinc, or Ivermectin; the fraudulence of the spikeshot clinical trials; the unprecedented injury and death rates from the COVID jabs (I posted statistics from VAERS and EudraVigilance) . . .

I was courteous. I never used swear words. I didn't call names, except to occasionally call a politician or two a puppet of Big Pharma. I backed up virtually everything I said with cites of studies and research reports, and quotes from experts, and gave links. When other people posted good information or opinions, I would back them up with cites and links.

I parked copies of most of my major comments on my own Facebook page, where they were eventually censored, of course. But my comments are still "findable" on my county's Facebook page simply by searching on my name . . . kinda nice, I suppose. I do wish that at the time, I'd thought of reposting my comments on the Facebook pages of the five largest California counties' public health departments; I could have reached a vastly larger audience that way.

Anyhow, early on, Facebook decided I was a Top Fan of my county's public health department and each of my comments had that nice little tag attached. That must have made the public health employees grit their teeth!

As the Next Pandemic revs up and rolls forward, I hope many people who've read this comment of mine will check and see whether they, too, can thwart Facebook's censorship. Are the Facebook pages of public agencies in your state considered "public record"? If so, have a good time being the unstoppable vocal (and preferably factual and reasonably courteous) opposition to the approved narrative and official propaganda!

Damn, Kayla, I wish I knew you back then! This is brilliant! (I want to go on the page of my former town--bright blue Santa Barbara--and gently, politely ruffle some feathers...) ;)

P.S. I should confess that there was one time I was quite impolite and did call names -- probably in late 2021 or in 2022 after much frustration with the public health department's allegiance to the whole COVID psy op. I'm a haiku writer and posted this:

public health people -

little clay soldiers

salute the absurd
