I was a lifelong Democrat for the same reasons RFK, Jr. was. Especially the antiwar part. And after I left the party that left me, like a spurned girlfriend, I thought long and hard about who the Democrats actually are. Here's what I found: 1. They are the party of slavery. 2. They are the party of the KKK and Jim Crow. 3.They excluded most black workers from many of the New Deal programs. 4. Then when LBJ came along, they did a 180 and gave special hand outs to black people as a way to make them dependent not only on government largesse, but to ensure blacks would always vote for Democrats. 5. Most egregiously, they were the party of masks, lockdowns, closures, distancing, and clot shots. So I concluded, the Dems are actually the party who has historically viewed people as property and not individuals. It was the Republican's founding ideal to end slavery. True, the Republicans have periodically lost their way when it came to the Gilded Age, the madness of the 1920s, McCarthyism, etc. but the party has returned to its roots. And those are healthy strong roots growing out of individual liberty and adherence to the Constitution. One last historical fact: I'm not even sure anymore that the Dems were actually the party of peace, my main reason for supporting them. It was the Dems who were actually responsible for the Civil War, who took us into World Wars 1 AND 2, Viet Nam, who gave us the National Security Administration and the CIA. Oh, and the FBI and the administrative and regulatory state.
This, this, and ALL OF THIS. So well said and so on point. It's the virtue-signaling part that's the worst; the Bill Gates-level fauxlanthropy. "Look at us HELPING (to continue to enslave) YOU! We're the party that CARES." [insert string of projectile puke emojis]
Billy (from the) Gates (of hell) would do well to buy everyone a few chickens and each town a cow or two. He could build tiny homes for veterans. He could do a zillion things with his 4 zillion dollars. He needs to stay the HELL out of our veins and stomachs. You want toxins injected, Billy? You want to forego filet mignon and eat ze bugs, eat plant based burgers, go right ahead. Leave us the hell alone. Put your fauxlanthropy where the sun don’t shine. You hate sun, anyway.
I need to add a personal note here. I was the same child as you were. I could always find an argument to defend whatever I had done. Signs that read, "Do not walk on the grass," I largely ignored unless someone could give me a good reason why I shouldn't. That trait has followed me into adulthood. As annoying as it is to others, it made me into an independent and critical thinker. And now, thanks to the Internet, we have all found each other.
Yeah, most likely. Let's just be best friends then. Can I say that you crack me up? I bought your book and I can't quit laughing. You're a bright spot in a bleak landscape, Trump notwithstanding.
"I largely ignored unless someone could give me a good reason why I shouldn't"
That's how you found out how things in society work. As a kid, I was terrible at taking apart new toys to see what made them tick. They might've not always worked after, but I accomplished my mission of learning☺️
"we favored a strong military, limited government, and a free-market economy. We believed in personal responsibility and felt that excessive taxation and overgenerous handouts disincentivized diligence and ambition." AMEN!
One of your best yet. When I grow up as a Substacker I want to be like you.
Love the headline, love the thought, love being here on earth at this time! For years RINOsity made me embarrassed to be a Republican --called myself a "Conservative", while I belonged to the R Party. Now I wear that badge with pride. Good things come to those who wait.
Yep, it's the same uniparty, but a big chunk of it went way off the rails. So here we are. I wish the Rs were rebellious enough to shut down the government instead of passing another stopgap funding resolution, but it doesn't look good.
I moved to being Independent because there was not "Other" in the choice column at the time. I do not see Republicans as saviors by any means. As a group the assumed philosophy was different at different times in history. It is the people who have moved in to take control of the Republican mantle I support. They have my support only as long as they move to resurrect free speech, property protections and a decidedly much, much smaller government. If for some reason this administration fails in this and another group comes into authority with those aims, I will simply support them instead. I am a "US Constitutionalist". I want to see the US Constitution stripped of most of its Amendments leaving Freedom of Speech, Right to Self-Defense and Rights to direct and benefit from Personal Property be it material or intellectual. We should leave the judicial system to argue out the rest as we have done for 250yrs+. We should sunset every law after 10yrs forcing them to be reexamined and revoted to determine if the conditions that brought them into existence still justify.
Oh Jenna. I was that girl too! Only I had to do it with a Mom who would grab the fly swatter, her flip flop, or even use her HAND to swat my ass for such…uh words. It was much less enjoyable but I do have to still tip the hat of respect at my mom for drawing that line and keeping to it! It made me a better person I’m quite sure of it although I was not a fan at the time.
Bahaha my mom was partial to her slipper and a "whoppin' stick," as it was not so fondly called. But she'd have to catch me first and she only did that once--when she chased me through the house and my big plan to escape out the attic stairs (I used this for sneaking out hahahaha) was foiled because someone had LOCKED IT FROM THE OTHER SIDE. Being bitch-slapped with a slipper doesn't hurt as badly as you might think it would, FWIW. ;)
Yeah the flip flop not so much. The wire end of the fly swatter though…which was her preferred end to use on my backside…hurt a LOT. I did not run because the punishment for running was having my dad do it which was way worse. Sounds child abusy I know but I survived it with minimal scars and a great appreciation for not getting caught.
Hey Jenna: Covid took so much away, but the gifts it continues to give are welcome, like YOU. I'm [or WAS] a die-hard liberal, a Kennedy girl in a family of Nixon fanatics back in the day. Now I'm a proud I who voted R for the first time [and I'm now upper 70's]. My heart is at peace somehow, awaiting what the new Boyz on the Block can do with this withered old country. Cheers! And thank you for helping my sanity.
The Democrats are trying to sell a Marxist Technocracy and the only way to do it is to LIE. The majority of Americans now recognize that the Democrats and their Media are lying to them. Former bratty kids understood right away. Former compliant kids are slowly getting it.
Reflecting on Russel‘s comment, I do believe there are a few good eggs embedded in the 555 but mostly for the purpose of stratifying and hedging their bets on reelection. If we were to talk about the voter base itself, then I absolutely agree with the title of the article And what I witness every day. While the Democrats seem to focus on war, division of races, medical brutality, and overreach, transferring the private sector finances over to the largest corporations while ignorantly transferring the public wealth over to the largest corporations, the Republican base illustrates they have had enough, want to be left alone, eat better, live healthier, tell the truth, and stand against tyranny instead of begging for it. Left leaning voters want the government to parent them, while it seems the majority of right meaning voters want the government to fuck off and evaporate. Not many of my values have changed in the past three decades, and I have watched the parties sway behind me but right now those that consider themselves to be right leaning are in far closer alignment to individual liberty than they are to tyranny.
I can´t quite get myself to utter the word Republican, but I sure ain´t a Democrat anymore. Which is weird, according to some, because I´m gay. Somehow folks think that because I´m attracted to other dudes, I´m an automatic Yes for weird pronouns and bombing Moscow. Uh, no...I just like d...
This party is oh so much better with the addition of all the renegade Democrats in it! I’ve never been more proud of being a Republican than now, not because Trump won, but because this party has for once become a party for all different kinds of people. As another life-long Republican, who’s been voting for over 50 years, it’s rewarding to finally feel that we represent all Americans, in all shapes and sizes. This feels like a new party and I for one, welcome Democrat renegades (I’d trade my RINOs any day for a renegade Dem!)
I found your next topic. Sadly, I just heard from a customer of mine that Fulton County, Ga schools are no longer allowed to give finals nor midterms. Every assignment they missed or failed has to be given again, with zero grade issues. Therefore the half says leading up to Christmas break are in fact loitering around days for most, while a few do make up work.
WHAT are we tracking them?!? This is glorified daycare for even high schoolers. What a disservice is being done to these kids by some stupid politician.
That is the Next Wakeup Call for America: the baked-in "professional-educator benefits system." The Covid crisis had the unexpected side effect of exposing "just how committed" the education-bureaucrat-heroes were to self-interest.
I abandoned the Democratic Party midway into Obama’s first term. But I did not go over to the Republican side of the aisle, as I couldn’t really identify with them either. I am a ‘decline to state’ registered voter. And in Commifornia if one is a registered voter as such, one cannot vote in any primary election, unless you choose a side. So I don’t vote in those elections, and that’s ok with me! I am a ‘cafeteria voter’…a ”take what you like and leave the rest” voter. I vote for the person who most aligns with my beliefs and values. And often times neither party’s candidates support that. I didn’t vote for the “current President elect”, in ‘16, ‘20 or ‘24, nor did I vote for any of the Dems as well.
Over the past four years, now that the “curtain has been pulled back”, so to speak on a LOT of CRAP, I see that both political parties are to blame for the state of our nation, that we presently find ourselves in. Both parties are “equal opportunity grifters” and have been on the payrolls of BIG corporate lobbyists and special interest groups for years. They spend more time fundraising, than actually doing any of the “people’s business” (the voters on their districts who elected them).
A perfect example of this was Senator Ron John’s ‘senate subcommittee hearings” over the past two years on the C*V*D Scamdemic and Vaxx Injuries and Deaths from the EUA mRNA Jabs. What has happened as a result of those “hearings”…as we say where I come from on La Frontera…absolutamente NADA!
It’s because they ALL are compromised in some fashion or another. “They got the goods” on these legislators, and they need to toe the line, fall in step with what their ‘funders and minders” say or risk exposure. Politics is now a ‘business’. It’s no longer a ‘higher calling’ to represent the actual voter or ‘man/woman on the street’ in their districts!
I was a lifelong Democrat for the same reasons RFK, Jr. was. Especially the antiwar part. Well written. Can I quote you?
Absolutely. Just steal it, if you want.
Yes, puke emojis. Lots of them.
I need to add a personal note here. I was the same child as you were. I could always find an argument to defend whatever I had done. DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS? ;)
Maybe we are sisters? LOL
Nah, we'd have KILLED each other before either of us made it to 18! ;)
Yeah, most likely. Let's just be best friends then. Can I say that you crack me up? I bought your book and I can't quit laughing. You're a bright spot in a bleak landscape, Trump notwithstanding.
Same rebel ways as you, thanks to my dad. It turns out, that trait has saved my life a few years ago. It is the gift that keeps on giving!
"I largely ignored unless someone could give me a good reason why I shouldn't"
That's how you found out how things in society work. As a kid, I was terrible at taking apart new toys to see what made them tick. They might've not always worked after, but I accomplished my mission of learning☺️
If they cared so much, why do we still have Ghettos??
applause!
The best book to show this is Uncle Sam’s Plantation by Star Parker. A must read.
Don’t forget the Cfr, the most evil group of humans to exist on earth.
Cfr? What does that mean?
Look up Samantha powers, if you want to be blown away.
Council on foreign relations. The literally most evil group on earth. They make the cia look like pikers.
Thank you.
Very well said, and a powerful message.
Jenna - your last line absolutely cracked me up - might have something to do with my belief about words as evidenced by my sig line on my emails:
When words lose their meaning, people lose their freedom. ~ Confucius
BAM!! Confucius was onto it !! Thank you!!
Thank you and THIS!!!!! :)
Jenna,
"we favored a strong military, limited government, and a free-market economy. We believed in personal responsibility and felt that excessive taxation and overgenerous handouts disincentivized diligence and ambition." AMEN!
One of your best yet. When I grow up as a Substacker I want to be like you.
Kudos, kiddo.
Rick
LOL thank you, sir. I'm honored. :)
Yes; it says exactly what I've believed my whole life.

I’m still just a conservative. Too much mic in republicanism.
Same thing for me!
Yep, it's the same uniparty, but a big chunk of it went way off the rails. So here we are. I wish the Rs were rebellious enough to shut down the government instead of passing another stopgap funding resolution, but it doesn't look good.
me too

Same here, only it was a wooden spoon, or being sent to our rooms, which my sister and I loved. We shared a bedroom so it was perfect.

Makes me wonder: if the USA was run as a Marxist technocracy, where could it steal technology?

I have gay male friends who are solidly on the conservative side of things in their politics!
Log Cabin Republicans are awesome! https://logcabin.org/

Accountability isn’t a four letter word.

You are SO RIGHT about the senate subcommittee hearings... no press, no shock and awe, and most importantly, NO CHANGE. So maddening.
It’s because they ALL are compromised in some fashion or another. “They got the goods” on these legislators, and they need to toe the line, fall in step with what their ‘funders and minders” say or risk exposure. Trump leaned Democrat at one time, too!
Great point and one I should have made lol!🤣👏
