They say democrats don’t understand basic economics. I think they do.
I think their major failure isn’t math, but logic, as in they can’t draw lines.
You and I can see that the rising cost of energy (gasoline/diesel, or having to use solar and wind vs coal and natural gas) has a price effect on everything we buy. Dems can’t.
They can’t draw the line from cause to effect.
They can clearly see that paying Joe $50k/yr is better for Joe than paying Joe $22k/yr, but they can’t draw that line to the concept that if Joe represents the little guy, on whose back the economy turns, everything that Joe just paid $3 for, he’s now paying $10 for, completely negating his raise.
They can’t draw that line. They can’t logic just as hard as they can’t meme.
I lack both the time and expertise to run the numbers but it would be interesting to see how fast food value meals track with the minimum wage. Out here in Washington State where they're trying to legalize taking rich peoples' wealth "just because" the minimum wage is over $20/hour in some places. Value meals are now in the $15/each range at the major chains which is basically the take home hourly rate. I don't think it's coincidence. Many who advocate for a higher minimum wage will find out that the true minimum wage is ZERO.
Those of us who are hard-working, productive, and have made our labor more valuable by acquiring skills and knowledge and therefore earn above minimum wage and whose wages are not determined by political fiat resent having our labor devalued to gain votes. We need to demonstrate this at the ballot box.
Or you can suffice with the AI summary that is about as useful as anything Kamala ever said.
“Fast food prices often increase following minimum wage hikes as businesses may pass on the higher labor costs to customers. This can lead to significant price increases, sometimes exceeding the rate of general inflation.”
This seems correct. I think it stems from the liberal belief that the government can and should solve every issue, therefore spending more money on a problem means they’re solving it. Doesn’t work out in reality? Definitely not their policies, it’s the gazillionaires.
Spending more money is meant as an ostentatious show that "government cares." But of course, it doesn't because it can't. Rather, government spending is a concrete example of the one of Murphy's Laws that asserts that "there is no problem so bad that it cannot be made worse."
Capitalism solves problems because there is, to borrow from MK's analogy, a direct line between "problem-solving" and wealth generation.
I say again, public schooling is failing our citizens. How would America be different if high school graduates "saw opportunities EVERYWHERE!" I'd like to see a nationwide poll of what they DO see.
My dad is 94 and has always been the voice of practicality and reason for me, and I remember when I was young, going to a very liberal college, he would tell me that everyone behaves to better themselves, and they’ll better other people if they can make a profit. Private businesses exist solely to make a profit.
NYC is about to face that missing section of the bridge, drive right over the edge, then ask the rest of us to throw them a lifeline and bail them out one more time…. because they really did try, and even tried harder… but just couldn’t get to the other side… the land of kumbaya and abundance
This is just like when B#den promised Student Loan Forgiveness and everyone who had debt slobbered on themselves thinking it would happen if he was elected. (Look Ma! No Student Loan Debt!) "Hold the fort, Charlie!" The Executive Branch cannot do that unless CONGRESS Approves. The "uninformed" really believed the Pres could do it. They must have been sleeping in Civics Class. Or they believe their Fairy Godmother was B#den and the Democrapts.
And I will stop asking, "How dumb can the Democrats get?" It's a challenge I don't want them to take because they will take a lot of "sheeple" with them.
They don't teach Civics anymore. Or Western Civ, or American History, or Econ, or Home Ec, or even basic Reading, Writing, & 'Rithmatic.
I watched a "Here's Johnny" segment on Watter's World, wherein Johnny asked people at the beach questions about America's founding. One young lady answered all the questions correctly. All the rest... not a correct answer amongst them.
I remember Rush saying, back when Obama was elected, that America would survive Obama, but what she couldn't survive were low-information voters. And voila, here we are.
And you want me to keep voting? When do the people get their country that was promised about 250 years ago? As of yet, it still belongs to a tyrannical and human hating government.
I'm not seeing that. The founders "never promised us a rose garden." They set up a system they believed ~ought~ to be able to preserve liberty--with "eternal vigilance [being] the price of liberty." Looking over the last four administrations "eternal vigilance" of the voters was not particularly evident, and I think we've got the government our "napping" has warranted. We ~could~ take it back--and we are better poised to do that now than several years ago--BUT I don't think we the people have the taste for the work involved, which involves "activism." "Let George do it, and I'll approve or complain about it." Only one opinion.
So. I gave you credit in my FB parody post “The Impossible Dream” I wish I could attach it, it’s the two paragraphs encapsulating and perfectly summarizing your whole great column today. I wish I could include a screen shot. “BUT WAIT - there’s more!” Laughed my fanny off! 🤣🤣🤣

I almost didn't vote because "Even the question is insulting" gives the impression that one can take the Democrats antics seriously. Seriously?! My eyeballs are polished marbles from all the rolling over they've done in my head!
On a side note, has anyone ever made a meme of Kamala as The Joker?
According to Alexander Tytler’s cycle of a democracy, it takes spiritually to have the courage for liberty. I think Alexander Tytler’s cycle of democracy, where dependency is the last stage of a democracy is very accurate. It makes sense because once people are dependent on the government, they are well…dependent on the government for everything. The government that gives you everything is the government that can take it all away.
It falls in line with what Alexis de Tocqueville said, “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.”
So, my thought is let’s skip over dependency (end welfare) and skip bondage and get right back into spirituality which gives us the courage for liberty!

that’s called economic relativity, otherwise known as inflation….

Absolutely. The profit motive for the win!
And YOU just got an entry into the Bumper Sticker of the Year contest!
Aww (blushes). Thank you!

"We just didn't WISH HARD ENOUGH! But we PROMISE, with the NEXT BAILOUT, we'll HAVE COMPLETELY NOVEL FANTASIES!"
Jenna, you out did yourself with this post. A laugh in every sentence.
I especially liked the ex-wife analogy.

This should be a bumper sticker. Or a yard sign.
I love your voting questions 💕
I just need more guac.
I voted more guac too. That stuff’s expensive! 😂

The missing link to the lyrics.
https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/manfredmannsearthband/blindedbythelight.html
And FWIW, I don't blame you for having to look up the lyrics a thousand times.
That's some crazy $#!+. And I grew up hearing that song! That's the first time I've ever looked up the lyrics to that song.
I feel like I've lost a little innocence. Heh.
LingOL!
Wow!! I’ve never read the lyrics before now - I feel a little woozy… And that was a Bruce Springsteen song?! Thanks for the link
How did free busses work out in NYC?
😂: “I’m thinking they’ll float free internet, a federal puppy subsidy, and all-you-can-eat guacamole.”
You crack me up every time.🤣
Love ya Bad Ass. 😘🤬🍑❤️
😍
I can’t imagine why Chris Murphy isn’t considered to be one of the Dims’ top thinkers. What a moron.

Nothing in life is free. It's either prepaid, or paid for by someone else. Nature abhors a vacuum and free markets abhor a Democrat.
