"When you belittle someone you do not define them. You define yourself."

The commandment to do unto others as you would appears to be at the heart of every major religion:

Christianity: In everything, do to others as you would have them to to you; for this is the law and the prophets. (Jesus, Matt: 7:12)

Sikhism: I am a stranger to no one; and no one is a stranger to me. Indeed, I am a friend to all. (Guru Granth Sahib, p. 1299)

Islam: Not One of you truly believes until you wish for others what you wish for your self. (Mohammad, Hadith)

Zorastrianism: Do not do unto others whatever is injurious to yourself. (Shayast-na-Sayast 13.29)

Hinduism: This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would case pain if done to you (Mahabharata 5:1517)

Buddhism: Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. (Udana-Varga 5:18)

Judaism: What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. This is the whole of the Torah; all the rest is commentary. (Hillel, Talmud, Shabbat 31a)

Jainism: One should treat all creatures in the world as one would like to be treated. (Mahavira, Sutrakritanga)

Taoism: Regard your neighbour’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss. (T’ai Shang Kan Ying P’ien 213-218)

Peace on earth and good will toward men. Merry Christmas all.

Thank you for this list, very helpful and so true. That is at the heart of Jesus' teachings IMO; that and "love one another as I have loved you". I'm going to print this out and frame it to hang on my wall.

Nice to see you again, TriTorch, hope you and yours are doing well. Merry Christmas!

Dear Jenna, would that we collectively embrace this lesson you offer: "A brief aside: Guys. If your idea of defending civility involves fighting obscenities with more obscenities, you’re sort of missing the plot. Can we all agree to try to be better than Michelea? It’s not a high bar."

Great summary of a story with a happy Christmas ending❤️

I wonder if I would have had the courage to be as kind as Jeanie? Instead of slapping the woman upside the head!😳

Wow. It is so crazy that people would go up to a total stranger and talk to them like this. These are the same people that called Jenna and Steve whores in P(r)ofitt's recent substack behind their screens.

Seeing both sides of humanity in this recent incident is beautiful. It's amazing to see how one seemingly random grandma can be helped by hundreds of thousands of people because of one video. This bleeding heart lefty just did Jeanie and humanity a huge favor by revealing what kindness is all about.

Grace always wins indeed. Thanks for sharing this heart warming cringey story Jenna!

The left is not kind or inclusive. They are a bunch of virtue signaling hypocrites with zero information. Thanks to this sweet grandma everyone sees that

Vee's avatar

There are definitely more people on the left that are like this but this isn't a left right thing. It's a people group think thing. We see people treating others as lesser human beings when they think that their group is somehow morally superior than another group.

We have seen this play out in history multiple times and we are seeing this continue to play out today. Just look at how the Israelis are treating the Palestinians and how many people in the world continue to support the indiscriminate killing of women and children under the guise of "freedom" and "fighting terrorism".

For instance cheering on the bombing murder of people in tiny open boats thousands of miles from our drug gobbling shores

Expand full comment
E. Grogan's avatar

The truth is that the people in those boats are part of cartels. They traffic little children and women for rape and sex and they traffic seriously bad drugs that kill people. I'm not cheering at their death, but glad they gone from this planet. The goal here is to put an end to all the trafficking of kids/women and of drugs that ruin people's lives.

and you know this . . . how? even on the very off chance of this is true, there are people much closer to home who traffic humans and drugs. but they of course are untouchable, so with zero evidence we blow up 5 or 6 people a thousand miles away. how encouraging

I still can’t believe that TARGET allowed her to wear that shirt. Target, the same store that was marketing “tuckable” swimsuits for trannies.

But I can’t wait for the commentary about that unhinged lady in purple on the bus berating that guy in a MAGA hat whose only crime was running a bus.

OMG I hadn't heard about this. I am sick. :(

Also RE: our broken system. From a Daily Mail story:

The bodycam footage showed a paramedic question the officer after he recognized Pea, asking: 'Who is this guy?'

'He's a regular. He usually punches,' the officer responds.

'I guess today he decided to escalate from his usual.'

According to KOMO, Pea's string of offenses dates back to 2011, when he stabbed two people at a party.

One of the victims in that attack was stabbed eight times, yet despite a jury finding Pea guilty of the savage attack, he received a sentence of just 18-months community custody.

Pea continued racking up criminal offenses over the years, including one in 2020, four in 2023, and one in 2024.

Yes, this is one of those moments when we get to see an unusual kind of grace from someone, and I know if that had been me, I would not have been able to extend it the way Jeanie did. Very humbling, thanks for giving us the whole story, Jenna. Best read of this season for me.
