In completely UNRELATED news, I sat down w Jenna last week who generously agreed to do my brand new podcast with the real me. We had gobs of fun talking about everything from marriage to chlorine dioxide. I hope you’ll tune in. And I hope you’ll subscribe. And I hope you’ll forgive me for pitching my podcast here. Love you all!

Pinning this! Nard has been UNMASKED! If you want to see her beautiful face and hear me detailing what a horrible wife I am, you should definitely tune in. ;)

Heather B's avatar

Jenna, that part about how to talk to dogs reminded me of a very old movie with Jack Lemmon called How to Murder Your Wife, where she does exactly that. Reads a dog training book and starts giving him attaboys for all his good behaviors. It's hilarious if you haven't seen it.

*adds to list*** TY!! :)

Nard???

If you really wanted to confuse us with the totally unrelated identifier, why didn't you just go with a Substack name like covfefe? LOL

🌱Nard🙏's avatar

LOL…I’ve used this screen name forEVer. Since the early 2000s. I joined Substack in 2021 when I was running for office, and let’s just say that I had a lot to say that I couldn’t say under my real name. I was running for office in an uber blue district in an under blue county in an uber blue state. So I continued w Nard.

ANYWAY…back to the the history of Nard: Mary Magdalene used a pound of the Essence of Nard (super expensive back in the day) to anoint the feet of Jesus…which REALLY p*ssed off Judas, as I’m sure you know. I chose Nard in the way way back because the anointing symbolizes loving Jesus selflessly without reservation💗.

So…that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

Positively Paying It Forward's avatar

Not a chance in the world covfefe is going to replace Nard. Blessings and soldier on mate.

Karen Bandy's avatar

She is beautiful! ‘Nard’ does not fit my mental picture. 😉

It was great! You are both lovely ladies with good heads on your shoulders…which is where good heads most often ought to be. 👍🏻

I saw this on her profile(?)! Now I’m def gonna watch it, it looked fun! Nice to put a face to the name, Nard!

Looking forward to listening!

John Wright's avatar

💗💗💗💗 Awesome! I'm looking forward to reading!

It's hard to find time for visual "podcasts", I wish we could get MP3 downloads to load on our music players (remember I hate phones) to listen to while driving or walking.

🌱Nard🙏's avatar

It’s on Apple AND Spotify!!

John Wright's avatar

Which are not portable. 😢

CraigN's avatar

There is software, not sure about apps, that will capture whatever is playing on your computer and so, you could start the podcast and walk away to later copy the audio file to your MP3 player.

John Wright's avatar

Good point. I'm not sure that would work well for me as I spend most of my time at my computer so it would be distracting unless it could be silently doing it in the background but then would that work if I needed to listen to something else briefly in the meantime?

CraigN's avatar

Yes, not sure if you can lower the volume while recording and still capture the audio. Can't hurt to try. I would recommend Audacity for the software. Very full featured and free. Search for how to record computer audio with audacity to see how to make that happen if you chose to go that route.

John Wright's avatar

Good thing I have a job that pays me to sit at my computers all day long. {grin} I'll sneak in a few minutes here and there!

Karen Bandy's avatar

Loved it, now I know to treat my husband like a dog 🤣

40 years this fall, and I still never get it right, but in all fairness neither does he.

KC & the Sunshine's avatar

We’ll be on year 40 in June— if we make it till then! 😉

Karen Bandy's avatar

Yay! I think we’ll all make it!

KC & the Sunshine's avatar

We’re more touch & go since

my man took 4-5 clot shots and became a hardcore TDS lib. 😂 He fusses with me but I keep saying he’s the one who went off the reservation! We were conservative christians — neither of whom knew a thing abt politics but we voted using whatever cheat sheet his mama provided, every time. 😉

Heather B's avatar

That was awesome! Thanks for linking! 💕

I'm not sure why this in particular took me out today "Middle East Peace (Final_v7)" 🤣🤣

This whole thing makes me feel very ostritch-y. Need more sand!!!

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

I love nothing more than when you guys pull out your favorite lines! (That was one of mine, too. ;)

John Wright's avatar

Yes! More sand! We need to bury our heads deeper... we are buried in the crap, some good clean sand would be a welcome refresher.

Bridget's avatar

Yes....like the superfine white sand on Thai beaches!

John Wright's avatar

That will do... although I've never experienced that. Here in South Dakota we fake it with snow!

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

I like that! Snow is your sand. I'll remember that for next winter out here in rural N.W. Pennsylvania!

Teddy's avatar

I always thought of NW Pa. as being up near Conneaut, OH.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

It's practically a stone's throw away. We live about an hour east of Pymatuning State Park which is 34 miles south and a bit east of Conneaut, Ohio.

John Wright's avatar

Brain freeze!!!

Ooo... NW PA? I want to come visit! I loved growing up in Pennsylvania. Beautiful geography!

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

Ok, now I'm curious: which part of PA did you grow up in? We're in Venango County.

Let me drop this here... it seems like a subject Jenna could have fun with:

"Lay’s potato chips are “Made with real potatoes.” We had always assumed they were, though the fact that Pepsi is boasting about it now gives us some doubts."

Juju's avatar
Apr 18Edited

Since we ditched overly processed foods, and won’t use seed oils anymore, I found a potato chip for my husband that he absolutely loves more than all the others: “Boulder.” Just potatoes, avocado oil, and sea salt. Nothing else. Way better than Lays or any other brand.

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

I hadn't heard of those! My grocery behemoth (H-E-B) sells their own kettle cooked chips that are just potatoes, olive oil, and sea salt. I'm not a huge chip-eater/snacker, but if I buy any sort of salty treat, it's that. (And I can down the bag in a single sitting hahaha.) https://www.heb.com/product-detail/h-e-b-kettle-cooked-potato-chips-olive-oil-7-oz/1779380

Juju's avatar

Yeah well that happens when they sell 5 oz in a 15oz sized bag 🤣

John Wright's avatar

Yes, I enjoy Boulder chips! I do have to remind myself though that they are not a health food, just delicious.

🌱Nard🙏's avatar

Pringles…Pringles are scary. Delicious. But scary.

John Wright's avatar

{grin} Yes delicious. Wow... it's been *decades* since I've had a Pringle! Perfect shape every time!

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

Which is why I won't touch them. :)

John Wright's avatar

Some of us weren't so wise back in our youth!

I should go look at a can of Pringles and see what the ingredient list reads like!

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

Well, it's worse than I thought: According to AI, "Pringles are made from about 42% potato content, along with wheat starch, corn flour, rice flour, vegetable oils, salt, and various seasonings. They may also contain ingredients like monosodium glutamate (MSG), maltodextrin, and artificial flavors, depending on the variety."

LESS THAN 50% POTATO????? And since they contain "vegetable oils," I must assume that they use a variety of them, maybe whatever is cheapest. Ugh. My 4 favorite manufacturing steps in the making of seed oils are: the use of hexane, degumming, deodorizing, and bleaching.

John Wright's avatar

Wow, a whole 42% eh?

From Pringles website: "VEGETABLE OIL (CORN, COTTONSEED, CANOLA, HIGH OLEIC SOYBEAN, AND/OR SUNFLOWER)" - so yes... Toxic!

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

So I'm going to make a friendly bet: Pringles are cooked in some kind of seed oil, probably soy? Let's google the ingredients and see what wonders we find.

John Wright's avatar

I love Ingredient Inspector's headline: "PRINGLES POTATO CRISPS — FAR FROM HOMEMADE™"

It's coming soon. It's not going to end like conventional warfare of the past. Iran already knows they have lost. Ceasefires and negotiations with them is an exercise in seeing how far they can wear America down. They are accustomed to being bribed and placated by western leadership that is more concerned with appearances than reality. Trump isn't going to buy into it. It's going to be his way or no way.

No traffic to or from Iranian ports. Iran with a 45% inflation rate. How long will it take for them to say uncle?

How long can Hezbolah or the Houthis last without Iranian support? What little fighting abilities iran still has is being withheld for it's own defense. And, they have limited, if any, options for moving support to their proxies under present conditions. Part of winning is ending their terrorist grip on the middle east? Winning is also ending their pursuit of "the bomb"!

The cold war went on endlessly without a nuclear launch. Why? Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The same thing assures that North Korea won't hurl a bomb or that we or Russia or China or Pakistan or India aren't going to initiate a nuclear exchange. But I'm sure that MAD can't be relied upon if Iran gets their bomb. They are a society led by suicidal ideologists. What Hezbolah is doing now and what Hamas did is a perfect example of the Iranian suicidal ideological impulse playing out with their proxies.

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

Praying you are right!!!

Heather B's avatar

Middle East Peace (Final_v7) reminded me of how I name my art files for tshirts. Some of them get to the point where the title is Final Fucking Version of (insert NAME). Yes frustration wins some times. As far as coversation, perfect name! They are covering more than conversing!

I have been saying for decades: They have been killing each other for millennia— LET THEM. However when Death to America is their motto then, yes, we need to be involved.

Crixcyon's avatar

This all makes more sense when you are tripping out on LSD. What a fricking freak show government is.

Mindy's avatar

"Because this isn’t a ceasefire in the traditional sense—where both sides stop fighting and attempt to de-escalate. This is more like a ceasefire with extensive fine print."

I actually have to disagree on this point. This is a common misunderstanding of 'ceasefire'. Ceasefires are tools historically used for many purposes besides attempting to de-escalate. A ceasefire is simply an agreed upon pause in the bombing, shooting, swordfighting, etc. Strategizing, preparation, positioning, resupplying, and such don't stop. It is still war. The ceasefire can be used for attempting to negotiate an end to the war, but also for many other reasons without an attempt at peaceful resolution, including collecting the dead, exchanging prisoners, or delivering aid to affected communities, after which the ammo starts flying again. This ceasefire is not unusual at all. It would be weird if threats of retaliation for breaking it weren't being made. Even if both parties genuinely want to negotiate a peace, they still want to show their strength and resolve to give them some leverage in negotiations. A party that just sits down its weapons and doesn't do any resupplying, repositioning, or anything appears weak and disorganized, losig a lot of negotiating power.

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

Fair point (except lots of bombing continued after Ceasefire 1.0)!

Mindy's avatar

Yep, that's a bad move.

John Wright's avatar

Civilized warfare is an oxymoron!

Meddling Kid's avatar

Until “ISRAEL” violates the ceasefire? Good luck everyone getting a Muslim…whose religion teaches them it is ALWAYS OK TO LIE TO WIN…to give you a truthful answer and not go back on their word.

Tonee norman's avatar

I voted” coming soon” because, it’s what I want.

“Kicking the ice cube under the fridge “ cracked me up. I thought I was the only sneaky person who did that. Just another indication that I have found my “Tribe”…✌🏼💜

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

It was something of a surprise to read that so few think there will be a peace deal! I'm not sure how the other side can fight without an army, navy, air force, or factories to make all that stuff. And now our blockade of the Strait will finish off Iran's fight which probably consists of a bunch of dead enders. Even the markets are optimistic; check out this website posted on Coffee and Covid this morning if you want to watch the price of oil dropping in real time: https://oilprice.com/oil-price-charts/#WTI-Crude

And I wanted to share this gem: on Monday's Jesse Watters show, he got a text from a viewer that said: "Our king trump's your strait." LOL

John Wright's avatar

My take: Iran is a lot like Vietnam. It would be a nightmare / impractical to "conquer" the country. So we can bomb them back to the "stone age" and a few years from now they will be back, armed with missiles and drones from China and Russia and the conflict continues!

Perhaps like Vietnam we can slink away, no doubt proclaiming "victory" and the official war is "over", perhaps we even manage to get a friendly government installed there.

It's not a simple situation though.

Mike Lee's avatar

I don't see any similarity to Vietnam. Not with Iraq or Afghanistan either.

The MSM pasted the goal of regime change on this operation but that was never a goal. Sure, Trump appealed to the populace to rise up against the regime. Why wouldn't he? But not a goal. Never was. The goal was/is to bring Iran to it's knees. To terminate their ability to disrupt the middle east. It's done. Quibbling over the terms of cessation of hostilities will go on but that's just the talking part. If Trump sticks to his goal the terms will be 100% in his favor.

We don't have to extract ourselves from the country as was the case in Vietnam and Afghanistan where we fought for years for clearly unobtainable goals with strategies that could never achieve anything.

This war is won and done.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

It's over, we accomplished our goal, and once more TAW! Up next: Cuba. These radical authoritarian regimes are ripe for collapse. Now, if we could just eliminate the authoritarians in our own country. I'm taken by Justice Thomas' recent speech. The modern state headed by experts and bureaucracies are not compatible with our Declaration of Independence. It's not a coincidence that propaganda was "invented " during the progressive era.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

I don't see this war as being anything akin to Vietnam. That war indeed was not necessary at all, but this one was and is not part of any nation building plan. Trump has made all the right calls so far just to ensure that not only Iran will become part of the civilized world but that Russia's and China's reach have been neutralized.

John Wright's avatar

The similarity I see is from a military point of view of being impossible to "win".

It's terribly sad that war has become a punchline when so many lives are actively being smothered and destroyed. This is evil and it needs to stop. https://youtu.be/6S6OPXM0Ykg

War is a racket as Smedly Butler rightly called out a long time ago. It always has been and always will be, despite how effective and advanced the propaganda campaigns are. Let's see all the warmongers put their children and grandchildren on the front lines of war and then maybe we'll take them seriously.

Dena's avatar

As soon as Israel became a country in 1948 they were attacked & the Arab/Israel war began. They’ve been fighting for existence ever since. This time seems different, it seems most if the Arab countries are supporting US/Israel & are recognizing the threat a nuclear Iran represents. I don’t believe Trump nor Hegseth want a forever war. Though Hegseth is in his element & seems to be having a good time winning.

Vee's avatar

The main issue that most people don't want to acknowledge is the fact that there were hundreds of thousands of people living there for hundreds of years with established homes, families, and communities that were forced off their lands for the creation of Israel. How would you and your family feel and what would you do if you were suddenly forced out of your home and told to fly a kite?

This entire narrative around Israel being a victim is a lie. The sudden creation of the state of Israel was an act of aggression to begin with and this idea that Israel “defends” itself while initiating violence is absurd. This isn't war. It's a genocide. It's literally David vs Goliath with Israel and the supporting western countries as Goliath. Israel has one of the most advanced and ruthless militaries in the world and they claim to be “defending” while they are actively killing civilians. It's been this way since the creation of Israel as they actively and illegally expand their borders while displacing and killing civilians.

To learn more about the reality of the situation, http://ifamericansknew.org does a fantastic job at showing you the real numbers of war and one sided this all really is.

https://ifamericansknew.org/about_us/events.html

I know from experience that reason doesn’t work in this discussion. Here is a fascinating interview by Marissa Streit & historian Bill Federer. Not just about the Jews, but American religious history & why. Hope the link works, if not find it ( & a wealth of info) on PragerU.

https://www.prageru.com/video/can-america-survive-attacks-on-its-judeo-christian-roots-historian-bill-federer-responds

Vee's avatar

What exactly doesn't work? The country of Israel was created out of displacing nearly a million Palestinians who were living life as normal civilians.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

All wars are rackets? Would you include the Revolution and the Civil War in that? I appreciate Butler's assessment and he was correct about it beginning at least with the Spanish-American War which, not coincidentally I think, happened around the same time as the progressive movement and propaganda.

Vee's avatar

All modern day wars are a racket since the banksters have been in control. I love how you are always willing to call me out 😘

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

Yep absolutely all modern day wars are rackets, and while the bankers are necessarily in control (along with all our defense contractors and did you know that those manufacturers were purposefully spread around the country so that there are some weapons manufacturers in nearly every congressional district? We have several small ones here: one that makes special bolts for bombers and another that makes ribbons for military ribbons), these wars require extensive propaganda campaigns, beginning with WW1, Woodrow Wilson, and George Creel. Want a fascinating book: read "Propaganda" by Edward Bernays (1928). Should be required reading for all Americans.

Vee's avatar

Amen Mary Ann!!
