Not sure I agree there. I see Flock as a tentacle, one that oversteps privacy rights in the public spaces. I see AI doing the same thing with your entire online footprint, from browsing to banking to email to shopping, creating a similar flock-heatmap-tracking of your ever-increasing life online, and with its continued use and permitted extent into our lives, it has the ability to block your online life à la 1995’s “The Net”.
AI gone rogue would do what many other movies have theorized by using Flock (London has had millions of security cameras tied together for decades before flock), building security systems, camera doorbells, satellite imagery, online activity, etc. to monitor your movements and interests.
We are splitting hairs (aka I agree with you). "AI" is not a threat. But AI combined with surveillance (Flock cameras, email scanning, web traffic analysis, etc) is a serious threat which has been ongoing for decades, it's just accelerating and getting worse.

Speaking of which, at a recent AI conference I attended, I asked the speaker about "morals" or ethics in AI, given some disastrous examples of AI turning on people who had put limits on performing a mission or achieving an objective. I cited one in which an Air Force test simulation (or was it?) used AI to find and kill a target, but to leave the "kill or no kill" decision to a human. The AI found out where the human was and eliminated him, and then went back to kill the target. I also explained my conversation with a university professor working on a NSA project with AI, and found that correcting bad input or information is VERY difficult.
I need to explain a concept here about Ai systems. They are not intelligent per se, just very good prediction systems about what the next likely word or phrase will be to satisfy the conditions or answer, using probabilities.

One thing people overlook is that you can download the AI models and run them on your own computers. The average person however doesn't have access or the computing power to run the "frontier models" (which aren't actually that much better).
The federal government, recognizing some sort of national security importance to global computing dominance, can allay the fears of the masses by dictating that all data centers SHALL GUARANTEE no change to their local or state electrical and water bills by supplying their own electricity and water however necessary. I think the real reason for this psyop is to convince people that AI is too dangerous for the average person to have and it must be controlled by a small subset of billionaires.
We are on the cusp of being able to have a thought and it can become a reality. An entire freeway was built in china with only machines. The Farmbot can plant, water, fertilize and weed an entire field providing food for villages with only sunlight. We aren't too far off from the ability to think "I want a spaceship to go to Mars" and automation could mine the materials, refine them, design and build the space ship and test fly it for you. All at zero cost and just sunlight to power it. It can even repair itself if needed.
We no longer need the profit model to survive. We only need to be cautious of our own thoughts (and everyone elses). Perhaps this is the government regulation excuse? but who are the biggest threats to have control of this technology? The government and people like Gates? Ok everyone! Calm down! Elon Musk has a plan to put Data Centers in space. (No more earth data centers, YEA! No more protests! Yea! Now, what are we going to protest?) The data centers will get the power from the sun and when you want to use SI (not to be confused with Sports Illustrated), the information will be beamed down to you using your subscription to Spacenet (or Skynet, or xPhone, or whatever the billionaires are making you buy).
