Readers tell me every day that this is the one Substack they never miss—the one they look forward to, open, and actually read. The one that makes them snort coffee out of their nose, startle the cat, annoy their spouse, and occasionally “pee a little.” If glowing reviews paid the bills, trust me,
I’d leave it at aw, shucks, and we could all skip the groveling.
Four days a week, you get me for the very reasonable price of absolutely nothing.
The fifth post pays the bills.
An annual subscription works out to about 30 cents a pop and comes with a free signed book. If you can’t swing it or aren’t sure you like me that much,
free content will resume tomorrow. :)
With the midterms less than two weeks away, you may have noticed I’ve been running my own little one-woman get-out-the-vote campaign. Unfortunately, the idea wasn’t as novel as I’d hoped. It seems there’s a dangerous, extremely well-funded group out there hell-bent on crippling Republicans in the midterms. What’s more, their plan—which they are not even being the slightest bit secretive about—is to get American voters to do their dirty work for them.
I realize that an election season without at least a few cries of interference would be like a bachelorette party without a stripper or a gender reveal without a small forest fire. Russian bots! Fake news sites! Italian satellites! Chinese hackers! Mysterious Macedonian teenagers running Facebook pages from their bedrooms! There never seems to be a shortage of claims that someone is trying to tip the electoral scales around here.
But according to a revealing new report, the meddling kids in question this time around aren’t using hacked voting machines, counterfeit ballots, or even a particularly convincing AI-generated video of Jesus Himself making a surprise early appearance to endorse Abdul El Sayed.
Their approach is considerably simpler—and a whole lot more consequential.
