Smart does not equal intelligent. Wisdom does correlate with intelligence. One must be able to apply one’s knowledge to a given situation to be able to demonstrate their wisdom and intelligence.

I’ve long thought it there is something seriously wrong with the prison system when the crooks have more rights and comforts than hard working Americans. The closest I can come in the constitution is: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;"
So if the President commands the militia (National Guard) and service to the United States is maintaining the peace, then yes, this is constitutional.
Well, we have to consider how the powers balance each other. If the military / militia follows the executive branch (President) even if the Judicial branch rules it over reach then what is to stop them?
I'd say it's up to the press, which is now corrupt, to shine a light on such actions to make sure they are for the public good and not serving tyranny. We have a huge problem now that we can't trust the press. Both because the press is propaganda and because of technology that prevents us from trusting photos or videos (too easily faked now).

The problem is that so many larger cities were overrun with illegals with their own agendas. The local lefty governments gave up or gave in. A majority of the citizens want their city back.

Fair enough. I was totally against the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. However, the case to use the National Guard for protection of our own nation’s citizens is much stronger and has precedent. If police stand down, as they were ordered to by superiors and the mayor in Chicago and the police commissioner is lying about despite, a written order produced, then what choice do we have as citizens? I’ll take the Illinois guard standing in my street any day or protecting my taxpayer assets. Wisconsin or Texas. I have had relatives in the National Guard. They are “US”.

Up until 1878, when the Posse Comitatus Act was passed, the President had free rein to utilize the military for civil law enforcement.
The Posse Comitatus Act restricts the President from utilizing the Army (specifically) for law enforcement.
The Act has several exceptions including for the protection of Federal property and for illegal drug interdiction.
The Act does not mention the National Guard, which has led to a lot of disagreement depending on which party was in favor of using it (partisan bickering).
I agree that local government should address local problems. However, our Federal government was heavily designed to protect the rights of the minority (dictatorship of the majority, the inherent risk of democracy). When the government stops protecting the minority (those forced to live in crime ridden cities), is there a moral imperative for a higher government authority to intervene? That seems to be the question we are facing.
The fundamental question to ask is "Do you believe the axiom that all people are create equal and are endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?"

If a democratic POTUS was doing the same thing, I would imagine that the right would be up in arms as well. This is setting a bad precedent for overreach of executive powers.

Remember the Whiskey Rebellion (1794) when President Washington actually led troops into western PA? Remember the federal troops sent to Little Rock in 1957 and to Selma in 1965? Those actions were based on the not so small matter of the Supremacy Clause (Article vi, Section 2) in our Constitution. The United States is not like other "democratic" societies inasmuch as our Constitution and its Amendments have given us resiliency, unlike the British constitution which has been pretty much made on the fly. The rights of the people were acknowledged by the 1791 ratification by States, of The 10 Amendments inThe Bill of Rights. These were not about Democracy, but about a carefully framed authority that "a moral and upright people" have over the rules. The national government is not only limited to Constitution, but more limited by The Bill of Rights, within this important point:
The 9th Amendment
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
So . . . Trump claiming "certain rights" from lines written in The Constitution aren't allowed to be interpreted to his own uses, running over rights of The People.

I lean towards "Let them figure it out locally." I'm no constitutional scholar, but is there a legal basis for sending in the guard? (That's not rhetorical, and I'd welcome an answer if anyone feels they have one.) Beyond that, is it our job to clean up messes that others vote for and support?
The closest I can come in the constitution is: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;"
So if the President commands the militia (National Guard) and service to the United States is maintaining the peace, then yes, this is constitutional.

Up until 1878, when the Posse Comitatus Act was passed, the President had free rein to utilize the military for civil law enforcement.
The Posse Comitatus Act restricts the President from utilizing the Army (specifically) for law enforcement.
The Act has several exceptions including for the protection of Federal property and for illegal drug interdiction.
The Act does not mention the National Guard, which has led to a lot of disagreement depending on which party was in favor of using it (partisan bickering).
I agree that local government should address local problems. However, our Federal government was heavily designed to protect the rights of the minority (dictatorship of the majority, the inherent risk of democracy). When the government stops protecting the minority (those forced to live in crime ridden cities), is there a moral imperative for a higher government authority to intervene? That seems to be the question we are facing.

Remember the Whiskey Rebellion (1794) when President Washington actually led troops into western PA? Remember the federal troops sent to Little Rock in 1957 and to Selma in 1965? A couple of thoughts here. Pattern recognition must also include historical and Constitutional context. The United States is not like other "democratic" societies inasmuch as our Constitution and its Amendments have given us resiliency, unlike the British constitution which has been pretty much made on the fly. I was in Seattle a few weeks ago…people shooting heroine on the sidewalks midday just one block from Pikes Place Market. Others walking around like Zombies. A very large woman wearing no pants soliciting a very old man. It was lovely.
New York last spring: Men urinating on walls. Town square so scary we refused to walk there. Ubered everywhere as the subways were too dangerous to ride.

The rights of the people were acknowledged by the 1791 ratification by States, of The 10 Amendments inThe Bill of Rights. These were not about Democracy, but about a carefully framed authority that "a moral and upright people" have over the rules. The national government is not only limited to Constitution, but more limited by The Bill of Rights, within this important point:
The 9th Amendment
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
So . . . Trump claiming "certain rights" from lines written in The Constitution aren't allowed to be interpreted to his own uses, running over rights of The People.
Also, The States are somewhat SOVEREIGN in a federalist arrangement:

There is only an executive function for President Trump (enforcing and carrying out already Constitutional powers), not a legislative or a judicial role. It isn’t about loyalty to President or Executive Orders that are largely subject to scrutiny by Congress and the Federal courts, and that is exactly the way the United States of America is supposed to be. There are not more federally or less federally compliant states, there is a equality among States through the Ninth and Tenth Amendments — to do anything that the States’ people decide to do — usually only limitable by the Interstate Commerce Clause, although some Federal laws are so Constitutionally in line with people’s rights that we must remind ourselves that we aren’t “in line with the federal government”, but rather the constitutionally-mandated federal government is in line with its constitutional mandates to stay out of our lives to some extent, by not construing ITS rights to deny or disparage the larger body of rights outside of The U.S. Constitution, that The People have, and had, before the country was even formed. The Constitution did not grant The States’ and The People’s rights — it limited the Federal government to WRITTEN authority. Calling something a federal crime is a not-absolute authority, for it is challenged by The People themselves, who consent to how they are governed, or they undo the regulations offensive to their justly asserted liberty (examples: no slavery justified by race; voting not deniable by sex of a person; possibly in the present and future, older citizens assert their rights to be private and not required about what the federal government considers data it collects for “efficiency”).
"Arm a bunch of angry moms." does sound like a good option! But they have to be old school Moms, not the modern "woke" Moms that give awards to their children for "participation". You know, the ones from the past that would say to their kid "Be home before sundown or I'm going to beat your ass with a wooden spoon."

YESSSSSSS. My mom had a wooden spoon AND a "whoppin' stick." THAT WAS WHAT SHE CALLED IT. I think my dad cut a chunk off a closet dowel--and man, were we terrified of that thing hahahahaha.
Interestingly my Mom was not a violent person and no threats of punishment. It was Dad (in our very young years) who we had to fear the belt from.
Maybe that's where I went wrong with my daughters? Too kind? Which is kind of funny because I never hit them and yet my stepdaughter (as an adult) told me that I was "scary". So apparently I was able to intimidate them with just a look.
My mom kept an old ping pong paddle (with several holes drilled in it to reduce wind resistance) as her persuader. It only took a good swat or two on the bottom to convince one of the error of their ways and to help prevent future transgressions.
And see, you turned out to be really kinda special for all that parental assertion of discipline and correction.
Staying with the dad and mom principles, the rest of learning how to overcome confusion of humanity came more from what brought laughs than from a stick that punishes.
Looking forward to joyful laughing that comes from goodness, not so much from the practiced mockers that people pay to go see at clubs where being inebriated and laughing is as evolved as it gets. Doesn't solve the emptiness of being a human, except fleetingly.
