Still reading but wanted to post this encouraging text I received a bit ago:

“Just got this from a friend at church. The Republicans are usually the day of, right? Let us begin hope and prayer for a miracle.”

“Ohhhhh we got a turnout today 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. Haven’t seen a line in a long time”

Let’s get on our knees this morning. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I was literally asking AI this morning to give me examples of when polls weren't just spectacularly lopsided but got every single candidate wrong--and they exist! So Pollyanna over here is still holding out hope... :)

David Nelson's avatar

Used to be, "If you don't vote, you don't get to complain."

Now it's, "If you don't get on your knees, you have no right to hope."

Russell Schierling's avatar

100% correct, Laura!

Only problem someone brought up once, with everyone on one side largely voting day-of, it narrows the field of where the shenanigans can be placed to rig the results. Like when Bernie areas in 2016 were having all these sudden erasures of voter registrations that stopped Bernie voters from voting or when the Dems closed primarily Bernie heavy area polling places in 2020 while also refusing to allow mail in. But of course chiding Trump for opposing mail in for the general.

The Hand of God will turnout enough Common Sense Republican voters, that will hold the House, Senate and key Gubernatorial

The first paragraph was 'nuff said, especially the 4-way stop LOL! I don't trust the polls or the media, remembering their Hillary-is-90-plus-percent-a-winner predictions. Definitely sad about all of the entertainers out there (The Boss, Dolly, Gene Simmons, ooooof on and on), so throw them into the "pile of no-trust" as well. After COVID, I don't trust the "experts" or the government either.

Sooooo at this point, I just trust the voices in my head ... they are all really good people as best as I can tell :-)

David Nelson's avatar

(Just remember, not a single one of them will testify on your behalf at the trial.)

Bridget's avatar

yes i thought that too. that they'll trot out supposed wins in the hope that people will get disheartened and stay home, or sigh and vote for the 'winner' because there's no other possible outcome

I’ve said it for years, Springsteen is a faux working man who pretends his “roots” except him from being bougie. Hey Bruce, how about you give up your “farm exemption” for your NJ estate?

David Nelson's avatar

"You’ve researched your candidates’ positions, scrutinized their records, examined their policy proposals, weighed their qualifications, investigated their donors, and attempted to distinguish their actual accomplishments from their carefully rehearsed talking points."

Nope. Not me.

Not since elections became choosing between "the guy who wants America to be a 3rd-world nation so she doesn't have to feel guilty anymore" and "that other guy who doesn't."

I've become a solid "other-guy" voter.

Cindy Fisher's avatar

I've never voted solely R until the last 2 elections for the reasons you stated.

David Nelson's avatar

One does have to be careful these days because there are so many loathsome candidates that sometimes there's not enough room on the D side of the ballot and some "cross over."

The Great Santini's avatar

First things first, the polls are perverted by the Dems. Always favor the Dems by about 4%. This is part of the Dem electoral cheating machine. They’ve just moved that same technique to Polymarket. They’re happy to lose money to try to encourage D turnout and discourage R turnout.

But I watch their behavior. If they were confident of winning the election they wouldn’t be conspiring to start a color revolution after the election. They’re worried.

Turnout determines midterm elections. We have to get out the vote. If you are Jewish and you vote for the D’s at this point you are a fool. But many will.

The R problem isn’t the war with Iran. The R problem is that when they could pass the SAVE Act they didn’t. When they could have supported DOGE finding and eliminating Waste, Fraud and Abuse they didn’t. Largely because of wishy washy Senate R. Several of the wishy washy are now gone. With luck and the help of Divine Providence we will survive this storm and come out better on the other side.

GregWA's avatar

I love the optimism. Fingers crossed...and praying.

Swedecelt's avatar

Well Jenna as an election observer in 2024 in a conservative district in a blue state (WA) I can tell you that yes, I voted, and no I do not think that will be the deciding factor. Have we forgotten that the D's are experts in cheating with the voting machines etc? Very little or almost nothing has been done to make our elections secure in time for this election, so I see Dems winning it all and everyone saying well, it's the midterms, the other side always picks up a few...and the cycle just continues, ugh!! It is such a sad feeling since voting has been part of my civic dna since my mom took me and my siblings into the voting booth EVERY TIME she voted and told us this is the sacred duty of a being a citizen. Sigh.

David Nelson's avatar

Hope you're wrong. If you're right, Republicans are gonna need a Reagan in 28.

GregWA's avatar

If Swedecelt is right, and I'm afraid he might be, there won't be a 28. Republicans will never control any part of the Federal Government again. The coup will be complete, at least the main power grab.

And then they are going to come for you and me.

So, as Sean Connery said in "The Untouchables", what are you going to do?

David Nelson's avatar

I don't know! (But what did Sean Connery say?)

GregWA's avatar

IIRC, in that scene it was implied from earlier bits in the movie, especially this line, "we fight them the Chicago way. They put one of ours in the hospital, we put one of theirs in the morgue"

Vee's avatar

Have you all noticed that regardless of who wins, both sides are claiming there will be a "coup"? Talk about a double sided psychological operation on the people.

So if there is a covid 2.0, will these elected officials stand up for bodily autonomy or will they "follow the science" again?

Here's a great resource to support candidates that stand for health freedom: https://standforhealthfreedom.com/find-your-legislator/

Dr. Molly Rutherford's avatar

My candidate (Massie) who stands for health freedom lost the primary.

Vee's avatar

I often question if he actually "lost" or was de-selected due to his unwavering moral stance.

Dr. Molly Rutherford's avatar

We have some Trump worshippers here in KY. Elderly/Boomers who watch Fox believed the lies about Massie. I was able to convince my parents to vote Massie, and it helped that they met him and had dinner with him in 2022.

Meddling Kid's avatar

Some polls are not just pointless, they are actively stupid. For example:

“Do you think the US will invade Iran!”

It simply does not matter what the results are. The CIC is gonna CIC regardless of people’s opinions in the matter, so it’s just a guessing game.

But in the matter of elections, it truly is an IQ test and the country is getting below a failing grade. It is hard to fathom that older folks, who still believe in the party of the working people, can’t see that it has morphed into the party of rape and murder and rabid Jew-hatred.

David Nelson's avatar

Here in "purple Wisconsin" (purple with rage), the local teevee political kid reporter spent the last weeks in sit-down interviews with all the state and federal candidates in the districts in the broadcast area.

As usual, none of that will matter in the end because at the end of each interview, she asked the same softball question, and rather than post those at the end of each interview, on Friday before the election she ran a side-by-side composite of all the answers.

The staid Republican candidate for governor was caught by surprise when asked, "Please tell us one thing about yourself that the voters would be surprised to know." His answer: "I can't think of anything really. I'm a pretty simple guy." (Or similar boring answer.) To a person, the Dems all had a "super-hero" meme to share: the Dem guber. candidate revealed he had played 3 different positions on 3 different "semi-pro" football teams.

Not "election interference," straight-up "professional journalism," dontchaknow...

Meddling Kid's avatar

The Republican didn’t have a good answer because unlike the Dems, he wasn’t given a list of questions ahead of time to make sure they were thoroughly prepared.

David Nelson's avatar

That's "2" for that theory, but massmedia protocol requires me to say that you are "claiming that based on no evidence." (Since "common sense" is forever off-the-table.)

Dr. Raleigh Phillips's avatar

I pulled an all nighter and I passed!

Dr. Molly Rutherford's avatar

I think Rs lose both the House and the Senate (they deserve it for failing to pass the Save Act), but the Dems won't accomplish anything. They will act like idiots for 2 years, making it more likely the Rs keep the White House in 28.

Jenna McCarthy's avatar

I suppose that wouldn’t be the worst thing to ever happen…

Demonhype's avatar

Will suck for me because my mom is already drooling at how much Trump is totally going to prison for his many unprecedented unconstitutional crimes that she can never actually articulate besides citing vague random things that are not unconstitional or criminal, citing things that never happened, or just calling me ignorant. She thinks the only possible reason he was stumping for the downballot is his terror of finally facing true justice for his historic evil and his desperation to avoid arrest and conviction. Her entire existence revolves around her near hysterical need to see Trump humiliated at any cost.

Tim Pallies's avatar

I always enjoy it when someone refers to outlandish crimes but, when asked for a specific example, comes back with "do your own research."

Demonhype's avatar

This is a woman who seriously told me in 2016 that Trump having chosen his Cabinet and having some of them writing letters to other worlds leaders before inauguration was unconditional and proof he rigged it with Putin. She refused to believe that was standard practice since forever, otherwise known as "getting n ones rocks in a row" and even her painted and beloved Obama did that.

Four years later, she seriously told me regarding J6 that it is a felony to protest the government because if the government is doing a thing and you protest, you are trying to change what the government does and that is felony obstruction and their everyone who showed up regardless of if a riot broke out needs to be arrested and jailed for 20 years. She did not believe that protest is a conditional right if you actually expect it to make a difference. But of course only for Trumper supporters, for everyone else protest is a protected right.

She still believes he called the KKK "fine people" because she saw him say those words and refuses to understand they took something he was saying about another issue and edited it into a different one.

She keeps on bringing up the rulings of district activist judges like Murphy and Boasburg against Trump as "the Supreme Court has constantly ruled against everything he does but he still does it and that's unconstitutional" because her sources never tell her it was a district judge or that the higher courts overturned it. And she thinks the calls to impeach such openly activist judges who have openly stated their refusal to find in Trumps favor no matter the facts of the case as Trump just trying to force "another" coup. Of course she had no problem with that J6 judge who admitted 1512.c2 felonies do not apply to anything that happened on J6 but she was going to make them apply to punish people who support Trump and thinks that was justice.

Because she's such an expert at on the constitution, which I guess has a little known Amendment 0, just above the 1A, that states "this document is null and void in the case of Trump and his voters" otherwise known as the Never Trump Amendment.

I love her and I want her around for a long as I can have her, but she and my late father have been absolutely TDS delusional ever since Trump ran in 2016 and offended them with his Biff Tannen swagger, and it makes it hard to navigate around her as she keeps trying to bring things around to the latest bs she's heard about Trump and how the rule of law works hoping I will join her at long last in the Meidas Touch fanclub.

kittynana's avatar

@Dr. Molly- but the Senate is for 6 years. That's the rest of Trump's term plus the next president. People aren't looking to the future when they vote.

Dr. Molly Rutherford's avatar

True. But what has the Senate accomplished?

GregWA's avatar

That's the worry. If they have both Houses they will certainly impeach and then try people in the Senate. They won't get any convictions but they will distract Trump 2.0 resources from continuing all the good things we've seen since Jan 2025.

HOWEVER, I wonder if Trump has accounted for this? After all, these first two years have been strategically brilliant and tactically unprecedented (no leaks!). Trump's team seems to have had a plan that accounts for all sorts of contingencies. The plan was presumably a four year plan and the going-in assumption has to be that you lose Congress in the midterms.

So, I wonder what the reaction to all the impeachments will be? How will they pivot?

I have great hope that there is a plan for this eventuality...and of course greater hope that it's not needed and we at least keep the Senate.

Bradley Lewis's avatar

I would add "insane" to idiots, however, I think Trump and some other Rs will respond in kind and it's going to get even uglier. A lot of nasty Congressional food fights upcoming, endless investigations by the Ds, and Trump's hands will be tied. The Neocon turn to war in the Middle East has finished the Trump revolution and the party will be in tatters again. Perhaps Vance will step out of the shadows and speak up more and become the candidate, otherwise you might get Rubio and they lose.

GregWA's avatar

No matter what the Ds do in Congress, Trump is still President. And he's shown a willingness to push that authority to new heights.

While I love the accomplishments of Trump 2.0 so far (with significant reservations like debt), I worry about the further increase in Presidential power. We need to move the power back to Congress...and then whittle the whole thing down to size!

During Covid times, I could ALMOST forgive the rockstars who were foaming at the mouth over vaccines and masks because it was apparent they felt personally responsible for the large crowds drawn to their music. But when Bruce Springsteen came to Minnesota, hijacking the state’s collective trauma by singing about the ‘Streets of Minneapolis,’ it was next-level disgusting. So many of these aging men fall into the same trap. They stop being rockstars and turn into activists who sing.

Tonya's avatar

"Telling us how much you despise Trump doesn't answer the question."

This seems like it could be the default response to so many of the endorsements we hear from celebrities.

Tim Pallies's avatar

Bruce lost me years ago when, while on O'bama's podcast, he essentially admitted that all his fans are racist. Thanks for the memories, but no thank you on political advice.

GregWA's avatar

I refuse to ever play his songs. Each "click" on Spotify puts money in his pocket. No thanks.

What we need to do, now that we have AI, is to hijack his songs. New lyrics that appeal to conservatives!

Patrick Bet-David and his podcast crew had an interesting take on the El-Sayed / Stevens / Rogers thing... All of them except Vinnie thought it made it look like nothing more than sour grapes from one political insider joining sides with another. With El-Sayed playing the role of "The Political Outsider".

One of PBD's guests went as far as saying that her endorsement of Rogers was the worst possible thing that could've happened because of this very thing. Apparently, many others thought similarly. Kalshi's odds of an El-Sayed victory went up after her announcement.
