Great post. I'm running for Republican Committeeman of my tiny ward and district in extremely blue, insanely "progressive" West Philadelphia. I have nineteen constituents. But I'm doing something! Working to get more former Dems to switch not to just independent but actually register Republican so we can do something.
What we need is to get the law changed so that independents can vote under the same circumstances as party affiliates. As a lifelong independent, I only registered Republican so that I could vote in the midterms. I was was too naïve to register Democrat and vote Republican anyway, to avoid the ostracism of my mask-wearing, vaxxed-to-the-maxxed democrat relatives.
SheWhoMustBeObeyed registered Independent after being first a DemocratSlaveryParty stooge and then when I changed to Repub she did also. I tell her she is a fence straddler now. Independents shouldn’t be allowed to vote in party primaries. We were in Virginia several times, only one of which we were residents (military before that) and could vote. They don’t have party registration. There DemocratSlaveryParty stooges cross over in the primaries and vote for a weak Republican if one is running. This shouldn’t be allowed either.
Last I heard Colorado has been trying to undo the ballot measure that allowed Unaffiliated registered voters to vote in primary races (either Dem or Republican). The state has about 1/3 UA voters. We now live in Alaska as registered Republicans but primaries are open to all voters. Unfortunately we also have Ranked (Rigged) Choice Voting that makes it even worse.
It depends on your state. When I lived in Massachusetts, I was registered Unenrolled (their version of Independent). For Primaries, I could walk in and ask for either ballot. Now, I'm in Florida and found out I have to be registered for the party to get the party's primary ballot.

April, Promethean Action PAC has a great flyer “What’s At Stake In The Midterms” (for a minimal donation) you can give to the voters in your ward in hopes of getting them to understand why voting Dem is not the way to go.

Zero ads anywhere, very few yard signs, zero billboards, versus ads for Shapiro protecting kids, farmers, old people, small business owners, schools, working class, and the trades several times an hour on Youtube. Was her name put on the ballot just so she can lose? I am a member of the Venango County Republican Committee and am having difficult convincing our mostly Republican borough up here to vote for Garrity especially since they know nothing about her other than the attack ads Shapiro is running.
After the 2024 death threats sent to this with Republican yard signs, resulting at least in my neck of the woods in streets with the Trump signs disappearing from sight while Kamala signs flourished, and the ultimate outcome of that little at of anti-free speech terrorism, not to mention the Democrats making "lists" of neighbors and co- workers etc to "deal with when or time comes", i wouldn't use people not wanting to admit their affiliation as a barometer.

When Democrats control congress, it's a madhouse of activity, with lawfare predominating the halls. When Republicans control it, it's as quiet as a monastery, even on the occasions when they are present. It's hard to understand.

First off the fake news in the pocket of the left AP is reporting this. My guess is internal polling is showing Dem turnout will not be good, illegals who voted are being caught/deported, and President Trump’s EO’s stopping election fraud are dampening the spirits of Dems who know they cannot win without cheating. So the laundry list of Get Trump is being used as last ditch effort to get out the Dem vote.
My rule is that if the mainstream media is reporting glowing polls for someone but they are flailing like Jerry Lewis, chances are the results are the opposite of glowing.
