On a scale of flashlight batteries to underground bunker, how concerned should we be?

Four days a week, I show up here to inform, entertain, and occasionally make you snort coffee out of your nose—all for the low, low price of absolutely nothing.
The fifth post pays the bills.

An annual subscription works out to about 30 cents a post and I even throw in a free signed book. If you can’t swing it or aren’t sure you like me that much,
free content will resume tomorrow. :)

When you’re in the middle of an actual war, one would assume it’s natural for the government to workshop apocalyptic scenarios. Still, when Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth introduced FORTRESS America back in September, my mild-alarm button was definitely buzzing. The Pentagon initiative—which stands for Federal Operations for Resilience, Troop Resources, Energy, Supply, and Survivability—calls for military installations across the continental U.S. to prepare to operate for 90 days with zero outside support or supplies, should our enemies decide to knock out our power, poison our water, blow up our communication networks, or otherwise remind us that a pair of oceans are a moat—not a force field.

On the one hand, I was glad to hear that the military was thinking about these things. On the other hand, was this the first time the military was thinking about these things? I sort of assumed that planning for the worst was, you know, basically the job description.

And also—importantly—what about the rest of us?

Yesterday, Dan Bongino answered that question. The former FBI Deputy Director used his massive platform to urge Americans to take warnings about emergency preparedness seriously—and to have their own survival supplies ready.

The internet had… some thoughts.

I NEED JENNA’S SIDE TO SURVIVE.
