Agreed on the tip of the iceberg. It is mind numbing to think of all the other HHS data and all the other agencies/offices that do the ugliest part of their business while avoiding those pesky FOIA requests.
At the same time, I look with wonder on our country that even allows a FOIA process. What a great country - that is in the process of receiving quite a few course corrections. Most courses were made worse in the 2020-2024 timeframe with lamebrain in office...
I voted "Dave makes a deal" because he obviously is unprincipled and crooked, so of course he'll try to save his skin. Hopefully he spills all he knows and gets us to second base with Fauci et al. But OMG it's painfully slow.

In all the TV series Mission Impossible episodes, when our heroes are listening to cassette taped instructions that “will self destruct in five seconds”, not once did we ever see them with a second device recording said message. So sad.

I had a personal experience with FOIA in our local high school. My kids had disabilities and IEPs that were being severely neglected. They were painting me as a helicopter mom when I tried to hold them accountable.
“…apparently you could just fill out an official-looking form and the government [school] was legally obligated to comb through the entirety of its records—emails, memos, internal communications, the behind-the-scenes stuff we weren’t necessarily meant to see…” is true of public schools too.
Except, the director of Special Education knew what I would find, and so acted like she would do me “a favor” by collecting the USB from the data department on my behalf and I could pick it up from her office. 🤨 She had no idea the resourcefulness I had with data. Lol
We discovered she tried to delete all emails from the USB that showed she violated all the medical confidentiality laws, colluded with doctors behind our backs, and interfered with our complaints by conspiring with other staff to cover up the heinous things they did to our kid. We had files that presented strong lawsuits against two doctors too for violating confidentiality laws.
How I noticed was because I recognized the logic she used to search the files for anything with my son’s name in the subject line, but she missed files where it was on an attached document.
She also missed a database file that gave to me EVERY test score by EVERY kid in our district, for three years, and the excel spreadsheet where they actually labeled them “preferential treatment”, “financial supporter” (referring to the child having a parent that donated huge sums to the football field,) and, I kid you not, “hopeless”. 😆 There were more categories, but it was clear any student with an IEP and great potential got thrown into a one size fits all bucket where they would never get the assistance needed to reach that potential.
So she violated the confidentiality laws of every parent and student in our district by hand delivering to me a confidential file about scores for every student. How did she miss THAT file if her only reason to see the USB before me was to protect confidential info for other students? Because it wasn’t her reason. Her reason was to CYA. I remember that moment clearly when I realized what I had. I was soooo close to attaching the file to an email to every parent in our district and asking them if it was ok with them that everyone knows what’s in this file now. She would have been fired in an instant. Lord knows I would have loved that.
I didn’t have the heart to hurt other kids and families in the process. Almost a decade later that file still sits on my private hard drive and never went anywhere. Instead I requested another USB from the data department and specifically requested it go only directly to me and no one else.
The comparison of the two files was unreal. She deleted every interoffice email that showed collusion. They broke the law in countless ways, socially and emotionally abused both my sons repeatedly, and if I had been a rich person and had 30k lying around, I could have been able to sue the district into oblivion. Unfortunately the attorneys advising me didn’t take pro bono, even though they were salivating at the open/shut case I had, and the agencies that did pro bono were so overtaxed with case load they only took the most egregious disabilities, or the “best for headlines”. I was just one of many average families with a gifted kid whose disabilities masked their potential and whose potential masked their disabilities.
I was tempted to use a retirement account to make this school district pay. Instead a wonderful attorney who had his focus in the right place helped me understand that they would drag it out for a couple years and my son wouldn’t get the help he needed right then and there. He recommended we use my IRA to get him into a private school instead and protect his education.
We did that. He went on to achieve straight As, in AP and honors classes that the public school would have kept from him, and graduated with honors. He got an amazing scholarship too. It was the best decision we made.

I had the best documentional evidence they had ever seen (because I’m tenacious that way.) FOIA is amazing. Know the tricks they use to CYA and request delivery in multiple ways and compare the files you receive.
A single court case/grand jury process would not end at Fauci. The discovery would include Presidents (Trump for one) and other department heads.
It is good to see this at the definite 'conspiracy' label now, but I do feel like Charlie Brown and the football. I don't expect to get full justice (still hoping though).
