My hope is that Trump’s lawsuits will literally end big media’s narrative switching. Now, if he could just end Democrat narrative nonsense.

Btw, Jenna, I worried about you all day yesterday when your post didn’t appear. It’s such an interesting phenomenon to worry about someone you don’t know and probably will never meet. But here we are….

I was literally ready to call the DMV to see if somehow you pulled the unlucky "Now Serving" number, but were afraid to drive back home without your newly issued government surveillance identifying proof certificate, aka: licence.

We were all so glad you made it back safe.

My friend, I’m reminded of that scene where it says “Guys work smarter, not harder”, and seeing the remote all the way across the coffee table, the guy uses his toe to tip the table down near him, causing the remote to slide toward him, easing his reach and avoiding him having to get up.

This is the nature of men, evolved from efficiency of need and avoidance of expending crucial resources. This is why we don’t change out all of the pillows in a room just because they clash with the seasonal decorations someone else put out.

Save your energy for the hunt. That’s what I keep telling myself.

All that, or I could have just written “Bruh. 👊”, and I know you’d understand.

Your picture of man's evolution is astute. Women evolved along a different path. I raptly await your explanation.

I may have mentioned this. My picture of manhood is all the men in the world marching alongside each other (curiously called "abreast" (???)), each aware and prepared that his fellow on either side might stumble and ever ready to assist, but simultaneously determined not to stumble and burden either at his side. Nothing is said. It would be too girly.

(We none of us know where we're marching incidentally, only to keep marching and to keep the line straight.)

The challenge is the large gaps between signs when you aren't quite sure what the speed limit is at that portion of the highway. Intelligent cars won't have forgetfulness, they will remember what the last sign told them.

Expand full comment

And the chip can let the smart car know how many miles the speed limit remains in force. This may be a benefit to me because for some reason I NEVER see a speed limit sign when I’m actively looking for one. Literally never. 🤣

Yes, I would actually really like this. I drive back and forth on "12" between South Dakota and Minnesota frequently. The same highway bounces around between 30 (or maybe 35) mph through some towns, 50 mph through other towns, 55, 60, 65 or 70 along different stretches of the highway. It's very difficult to know what your speed is supposed to be at any particular location.

It pains me to admit that Google Maps will show the speed limit and your speed while in navigation. It can be nice when you suddenly see the police behind you....

I can forsee the day when the Feds mandate speed governors for self-driving cars.. "If it only saves one child's life, it'll be worth it..." Or the car manufacturers will do it for liability reasons.

Don't get me started on a "Canadian Convoy" scenario where your car locks the doors and drives you to jail.... 😉

"Speed limits" may become a part of history. Once everything is self driving, the vehicles will be able to automatically adjust their speed for safety and efficiency. Nice straight stretch of road with no hazards? Zoom, car accelerates up to 120 mph. Deer approaches side of road. Un-zoom, car slows down for safety to reduce the risk of hitting the deer.

No other cars on the road? Zoom faster. Crowded traffic? Automatic slow down. It will be very nice and dramatically improve safety.

Ha -- the folks who think that the way to reduce the deer population is through birth control, like hysterectomies, instead of just shooting them and eating them, would probably like that idea.

I'm wondering if smart cars know enough not to put on the brakes in a situation where a deer jumps out with less than a second before you'll hit it? I had zero time to react, so I just plowed into it at full speed, which turned out to be safe for me and fatal for the deer. If the stupid car puts on the brakes, that would obviously be very dangerous for the driver. But would a smart car say "oh, something big to hit. we'll just go ahead and hit it."? Will it be able to evaluate quickly that it's a deer and not a brick wall? Hmmm. . . even if my (2017) car is totaled, I'm getting it back on the road. Don't want no extra "smarts" in my ride!

There was actually an article in Popular Mechanics about this 20-30 years ago. It was basically an autonomous driving cars only express lane. By electronically linking all the cars together they could operate like a train; faster speeds and no large spaces between the cars.

Expand full comment
John Wright's avatar

I've discussed this concept with several people. I think it would be a fantastic approach. The problem is that it's probably cheaper to just get autonomous driving implemented and approved than to build dedicated lanes. Autonomous driving is already safer than human driving, in a year (maybe two) it will be staggeringly safer!

I think the two concepts could be combined. If you don't trust it on the city streets, etc, then keep driving like usual but for major interstate trips, build the dedicated lanes and use them for super safe long trips - which would be FAR faster (and more relaxing).

I watched the edit in its entirety on the news Monday.

They played the first part you quoted then, they strung on the, “fight like hell” part from 57 min. later, totally unrelated. I KNEW he never called everyone to arms!

Way back when it first happened, some news, Idk which, played his actual speech so I figured it would be settled. (OH, the naïveté!)

Next thing I knew, he was magically saying, “We march, and I’m going to be with you, and we fight like hell!”

SAME with the thing in North (or South?) Carolina. On one news channel, he said the Proud Boys - or whoever it was, had done a bad thing, totally racist whereas, on the channels hubs, watches all of them

said, “There were GOOD people on BOTH sides” or some such.
